Newsletter – June 2023

Hello everyone,

MinchLife were so pleased to see so many people enjoying the fun at the Coronation Street party on 7th May and the weather could not have been more kind.  We are now working on the Fayre to be held on Saturday, 9th September.   Do visit the website if you would like to take part in any way or to volunteer to help.

We are having a Garden Party on Sunday, 4th June.  It is a real treat to visit this special garden as the owner is a professional garden designer.  It is from 5.30 pm – 7.30pm.  Tickets are £25 each – a bit pricey, but it is a fundraising event for the Fayre and there will be bubbly and canapes.  Do email info@minchlife.com if you would like to come.

Sadly Jilly Jennings, a well known and much loved resident of Minchinhampton, died recently at home at the age of 105. Her Thanksgiving service will be on 21st June at 12.30 pm at Holy Trinity.  A full obituary will be in next month’s Parish Magazine.

Weedkiller
Please don’t spray weed killer anywhere that the cows can graze. Weed killer is potentially harmful to cows.  Also some of the cattle are raised organically and the presence of treated weeds threatens their organic status.  We all know how important the cows are to the common – please help them stay healthy!

The Great Big Green Week (10th – 17th June)
See the list of events below, but they range from a blitz in the churchyard on the 10th, to a litter pick on 13th and finally The Big Green Summer Fete on Saturday,  17th hosted by Minch PTA and supported by MinchCan.  There will be a BBQ,  circus skills, forest school crafts, Falconry display, Fun Science, music, country dancing and more!   It will be the first summer fete held for several years and it is hoped  it’ll be a really successful event that brings the community together. (12pm – 4pm)

The Market House is 325 years old!
Many celebrations are planned for this year to help raise money for this prestigious building and to mark this milestone.   It all starts with a Ceilidh on 24th June.  Other events include:  a birthday party in July;  a history exhibition and evening;  Talks;  a historic Minchinhampton pub walk;  an Antiques Road show;  a wine tasting evening and so much more.  Watch out for more information in the coming months …

Minch Players’ next production will be Oliver! (from 30th November – 2nd December)
Rehearsals will be on Wednesday evenings in the Market House, from September.  They need plenty of actors, chorus singers, front of house, back stage helpers and general support staff.  Children and young people particularly welcome.  Anyone can join in, there are no auditions.  There is an informal get together with refreshments on 20th June – see below.  If you can’t make that evening but would like to be included, please register your interest by email to Terry Robinson robbierie@gmail.com or Possum Doyle davidandpossum@googlemail.com

Horsfall House
A message from Duncan Woods:  We are all set for this year’s Charity Walk on 11th June. It’s a perfect opportunity to see Gatcombe Wood and Water Gardens of Avening Court (by kind permission of their owners), to stretch your legs and the dog’s and to support your local elderly-care charity.  If you continue the full circular route it’s 10 miles in total or 7 miles if you follow our more direct route back to Minchinhampton.   And there’s always the shuttle bus back from Avening if that’s enough walking for the day!  All the details with online registration and online donation (ideal for a swift check-in on the day) and a downloadable map and directions are here.  Email  fundraising@horsfallhouse.co.uk with any queries.  Hope to see you there.
