| Hello everyone, There are several organised walks for charity taking place in June – hopefully it will be a bit cooler by then. All the details are under ‘Events’ but significantly Horsfall’s annual walk is on Sunday, 7th June and is so popular as along the route walkers can enjoy Gatcombe Woods and Avening Court. Longfield Hospice also have two walks: on Saturday, 6th (Amberley Wine Walk) and Saturday, 13th June. (Walk for Longfield and Summer Fete). MinchLife have their bi-annual Open Gardens on Sunday, 28th June. Do please support this as, apart from the pleasure of seeing a wide variety of local gardens, proceeds will go towards the 2027 Country Fayre. Minchinhampton Cows and Horses on the Common Very sadly, within 10 days of the cattle coming out to join us on the Commons, there have been two collisions with cars, one resulting in the death of a young cow and the second in a very bruised Highland. In both cases, the cars were severely damaged if not completely written off. If you want to avoid a similar disaster, please drive at 25mph or less at night and concentrate fully on the road ahead. This is indeed very slow but it really does pay off. At 40mph there is no hope for the cow that steps out in front of you and none for your car either. The authorities are refusing to alter the speed limit so it is up to us to slow ourselves down regardless of the speed limit. Please – if you want our commons to remain beautiful – slow down. Open to residents and businesses within the conservation area, floral displays are judged in June, July and August. There is still time to enhance your doorsteps, window sills or add a hanging basket or two. Prizes are awarded at the Minchinhampton Flower and Produce Show on Saturday, 5th September. The conservation area is the oldest part of town, as far as Stuart Court, Tetbury St and Friday St up to the allotments, first part of Well Hill and West End up to Dr Brown’s Road. We are looking forward to seeing your displays! Minchinhampton Parish Council are looking for an Assistant Clerk (21 hrs) and a Finance Administrator (6 hrs). The Cotswold Club is running a Crowd Funding initiative to support the cost of renewing the flat roof over the main bar. It is well over 30 years since it was last done, and the passage of time means that replacement is unavoidable. The offer is being promoted as a benefit of membership, with interest around 8% pa., (subject to terms and conditions) Anyone who would like to contribute and who is not a current member should contact the secretary, or maybe call in and see what the Club, celebrating its 80th anniversary this year, has to offer. Recycling Empty Medicine Blister packs Launches at Minchinhampton Community Library on Tuesday, 2nd June. Blister packs cannot go in home recycling collections but can still be recycled. They’re made up of plastic and other materials, and plastic packaging in the UK accounts for nearly 70% of our plastic waste, so it’s worth doing. Unfortunately partly used blister packs or other medicine packaging are not acceptable. Minchinhampton Branch of Royal British Legion At the meeting on 15th April we welcomed 2 visitors who have since joined the Legion. We also welcomed two other recent joiners to their first meeting. It is encouraging to see the increase in membership. However, to ensure its long-term future, it is important that we continue to attract more members who are willing to take an active part in running the Branch. If we are unable to fill the required roles, the Branch will cease to exist and we will not be allowed to parade the Branch Standard. Membership is open to everyone and not confined to military personnel. The Branch website is in the process of being updated and includes the Minutes of our meetings.
