MinchLife are preparing for the Street Party on Saturday, 12th September with the Minch Moo race set to take place at 3.00pm. Do bring your friends and a picnic and enjoy the live music and fun community event. A film of the history of Minchinhampton will be running continuously in the Market House for the whole afternoon. Minchinhampton Allotment Association
If you would like an allotment to grow your own but haven’t enough time and would like somewhere small, Minchinhampton Allotment Association have established a number of “mini plots”, 3m x 1.2m. Minch Safer Streets
is an initiative, established by the community to bring the people of Minchinhampton together to pool ideas and resources, share experiences, perspectives and knowledge with a focus on creating changes that will make the streets of Minchinhampton safer for those that use them. We have held two meetings in July in the back room at The Crown with a third booked for Tuesday, 1st September 6.00 to 7.00pm. Anyone using the streets of Minchinhampton is welcome to be part of Minch Safer Streets.
Those attending the first two meetings left with broad agreement that, whilst many issues affect Minchinhampton’s streets, we cannot tackle everything at once and that it was important to identify a small number of priorities that would have the greatest impact. These were the speed of traffic through the town, vehicles driving on pavements and better signage for drivers. These issues are all connected and need to be addressed as part of a wider goal of making Minchinhampton’s streets safer for everyone.
Discussions at both meetings reinforced an underlying theme that people want Minchinhampton to remain a place where it feels safe to walk, where children can gain confidence moving around the town, and where local businesses continue to thrive. In many ways, the conversation was about preserving the character of Minchinhampton as much as improving its streets. It was clear that different streets have different challenges and that the issues are experienced in various ways across the town. The meetings also recognised that, at this early stage, there are differing views about how safer streets might best be achieved. However, several people highlighted the planned six-month closure of Cowcombe Hill from early November and the likely increase in traffic passing through Minchinhampton during that period, so it was felt important to build momentum and begin making the case for improvements before additional traffic arrives.
Between now and the September meeting there is opportunity to build evidence. If you witness examples of excessive speed, vehicles driving on pavements, dangerous parking, poor signage or any other road safety concerns, please email photographs, videos with location, time and date details and a brief description. Please also email if you have ideas for improving road safety, examples of good signage from elsewhere and suggestions for practical measures that could help make Minchinhampton’s streets safer. This continues to be a community-led process and we would encourage you to tell friends, neighbours and colleagues about the meetings. Everyone with an interest in making Minchinhampton’s streets safer is very welcome to take part. Community Governance Review
Stroud District Council have launched a public consultation as part of a Community Governance Review which offers the opportunity to consider whether local parish governance arrangements remain effective, convenient and reflective of local communities of the Parish. This is your opportunity to have your say on issues such as parish boundaries, warding arrangements and the number of parish councillors. The consultation is open until Wednesday, 9 September. Cotswold Crafters Club – Coming to Box Village Hall this September!
Looking for something creative and fun for your child on a Sunday morning? Cotswold Crafters Club is a brand-new Sunday morning club for children aged 6–12, run by Hannah Daulton, a qualified local teacher and Box resident. Sessions include a variety of activities such as arts and crafts, sweet treat making, stories and reading, nature walks (weather permitting), games and creative activities in a friendly, small-group environment.
