Newsletter – 30 July 2021

Hello again everyone,

Most of you will have received our last newsletter telling you about the Street party on Saturday, 18 September, 1pm – 8.30pm.  Do reserve your place if you haven’t done already and buy some raffle tickets.

We also wish to highlight that Minchinhampton Gardening Club are holding their 38th Annual Show at the School Hall on Saturday, 11 September.  The show schedule and entry forms can be found in various locations in the town, but an electronic version can also be found here. Completed forms and entry fees must be submitted by 9 September 2021.

Minchinhampton Community Hub (MCH)

As you may know it is hoped to build a new playground next to the Hub, and before MCH commission designers and get quotes for equipment they would like to know what you and your family would like to use.  Do fill in the survey on https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/2FMS2P6
And feel free to post photographs and pictures of ideal playgrounds on the MCH Facebook page, or email rector@minchchurch.org.uk.

There is also a competition for your children to design their Dream Playground.   There are three categories; Ages 5 – 7, Ages 8 – 10 and 11+.  Closing date 5 September.  Win £10 to send on cakes and drinks at the Kitchen.  Playground competition entries should be put in the entry box which is in The Kitchen – on an A4 piece of paper with name, age and contact details on the back.

Minchinhampton Community Library
The summer reading challenge “Minchinhampton Reading Warriors” is now in full swing, but there are still spaces available for school-aged children, as well as those starting school this September.  Throughout the challenge, library volunteers support children, helping them to explore a wide range of different types of books and enjoy a range of creative activities and events.  Children receive stickers each time they finish a book and there’s a £5.00 book token for everyone who completes the Challenge (limited to first 100 places).

The hours still remain as follows:  Monday:  2.00-4.30pm, Tuesday and Friday 10.00-12.00noon and 2.00-4.30pm, and Saturdays 10.00-12.00noon.  We would love to extend our hours, but we need extra volunteers to help out.  If you love books, have time on your hands from this September and are able to pick up new computer systems easily, give the library a call on 01453  885497 during opening hours.

Minchinhampton Market House
As previously reported, there are plans to lift the 17th century stone of the ground floor undercroft of the Market House, level the surface, replace unusable pavers with appropriate pavers of the same stone, and re-lay the floor complete with channelling to permit the provision of 21st century services for the future.  This work will make the undercroft an attractive safe space in which to hold the weekly country market and other community events, especially for the youngest and older members of our community.

A more detailed update on the undercroft appeal can be found here.  Can you help to complete the funding for this Appeal to enable the project to be completed this year?  If so, please contact Tim Mowat, trustee, at timmowat@gmail.com, or telephone 01453-883369, or (mobile) 07909464066.
