Hello everyone, and what a joy with a series of lovely sunny days to enjoy once more! Our gardens are really taking off now, so it might be time to plan for the coming year. I have plotted my veg planting, and considered changes I would like to make to the garden layout. Now all I must do is complete the tasks! Members here at Amberley Gardening Club have been similarly plotting and preparing and wondering at odd plants popping up in their gardens. Helen was perplexed by some tiny “inside-out” daffodils, which Matthew identified as “narcissus cyclamineus” and Rosemary is still hoping to identify the mystery plant which has popped up in her potato patch. Answers on a postcard please!
During this warmer weather, we can appreciate the scented plants in our garden: Matthew shared a pic of his viburnum bodnantense in full flower, a totally delicious scent. And with the longer evenings, Christopher shared a stunning picture of a sunset lighting up his daffodil border. Great trials and tribulations over Rosemary’s dahlia tubers, some of which now have the consistency of a “soggy Weetabix”. Matthew advised cutting out the soggy bits, then storing them wrapped in newspaper in a dry place until all risk of frost has passed. You see, not all our members are foolproof gardeners!
But enough of the idle gossip, now to our upcoming events for the nextfew months: On Thursday, 8 May at 6.30pm there is an evening visit to Pound Farm Nursery near Gloucester, where we will enjoy a tour of the nursery, a hanging basket demo and tea and cake. After that, we have our summer garden visits planned for June, July and August to Brockworth Court & Painswick Rococo Garden (Wed 11th June), High Glanau Manor & Greenfields nr Chepstow (Mon 7th July), and Birmingham Botanic Gardens & WinterbourneHouse (Tue 5th August). Guests are welcome to come along to talks and visits, or you may wish to join as a member.
For further details please contact christo.p.bailey@outlook.com. Membership includes access to our WhatsApp group, free admission to talks, a summer garden safari, and Christmas social event, as well as more informal visits to members; gardens via our “Mugs in the Garden” (referring to tea & coffee (and usually cake!) on offer, not to the intellectual abilities of our members!) And also the fuzzy feeling of being part of a varied social group. We look forward to welcoming you very soon
