MinchLIFE Newsletter
1 October 2020
Hello everyone

As you know we have not been sending regular monthly newsletters from MinchLife for some time now but in future hope to do so once a month.   Please let us know at info@minchlife.com about anything you would like brought to the attention of the community and/or anything that your Club or business is organising.

Due to Covid so many things are changing but a few “events” are beginning to creep back in.  Do remember how helpful all our local businesses have been through lockdown and difficult times and continue to support them.

Horsfall House Free Respite Walk raises £10,900!
On Sunday, 13 September Horsfall House held their annual Charity Walk for free Respite Care.  The weather was perfect and the turnout was very high – approximately 387 walkers.  Everybody seemed to enjoy the experience, with Gatcombe Woods and the  gardens at Avening Court giving particular pleasure. Many said they are looking forward to next year’s walk.

Horsfall House would like to thank all the walkers, sponsors and volunteers for their donations and help in helping to make the day such a success.  Respite Care has become recognised as a very important facility in the community.   Horsfall House thanks their Patron, HRH Princess Anne, for allowing access through Gatcombe Woods and to the owners of Avening Court for opening their stunning gardens.  Particular congratulations and thanks should go to Assumpta Golding from the Kitchen, Janet Rutherford and Nigel Stapleton who not only walked the ten miles but raised a large amount of money through sponsorship. There were also several very generous donations and these are so much appreciated.  Details of next year’s walk to follow.

Minchinhampton Market House is open for business.  In accordance with Covid 19 restrictions the Market house have produced a policy and risk assessment.  It can be found on the MMH website http://minchinhamptonmarkethouse.co.uk/ along with the booking forms you will need to use to book the facility. Joe May is the Booking Manager.  He will be able to help you with assessing whether and how your activity can take place safely within the facility. Local Club News:

Cotteswold Naturalists Field Club:  As with many other clubs, they are looking at holding talks for members by Zoom, although they are aware that this format does not suit everyone.  More news to follow next month.

Minchinhampton Gardening Club:
Minchinhampton Alternative Gardening Show, was held on Saturday, 12 September 2020.  The committee decided that the show in the school hall would be cancelled this year, but after all the time we’ve had to grow flowers and vegetables this spring and summer, an alternative means to display your produce was proposed. The Minchinhampton Alternative Gardening Show (MAGS) took the form of a summary of photographs of exhibits of produce, photos, allotments, and gardens provided by the exhibitors and compiled into a digital document. There was no judging, prizes or entry fee – just a way of showing your produce and seeing how others have managed and the domestic science section was replaced with gardens and allotments.

The ‘event’ was open to residents of Minchinhampton and members of the Gardening Club who submitted just one photo for each class entered, (except the photography section, where 2 photos per class were allowed).

Do look at the photographs and report on Minchlife.com
