Hello everyone, August is another incredibly busy month in our town. Giffords’ Circus will soon be rolling in bringing so much life, buzz and excitement. As you will know it is their 25th anniversary show and Tweedy is back! The Church Fete is on on 9th August and the Bank Holiday weekend sees the first Beer and Cider Festival at the Crown Inn. There will be games and stalls in the car park and live music all weekend. Looking ahead to September it is the Gardening Show on 6th September so do consider entering and making the event even more successful than it was last year. Of course we, MinchLife, are working hard on the Country Fayre due to take place on 13th September. From 11.45 am the car rally will pass through the town, meeting up with the Pageant at the Baptist Church and they will then process up the High Street to the sound of the Church bells and a brass band and from there to The Park where the 2025 Fayre will take place. We are very grateful to the Graziers for allowing this to happen as there will be plenty of space for all the activities. There will be live music throughout the day; Pamper and Scamper are organising the Dog Show; there will be a Kids’ Zone with lots of fun including a Bubble Fairy and Mark Poulton with his Punch and Judy show (although this entertainment is for all ages and was a sell out at Glastonbury); the Dazzle Showgirls with be performing their incredible toe tappin’ country themed act and Katy Walton will be bringing her talented children to dance at 1pm; The Fun Fair will be there as well as the Glider Simulator, a Tarot Card Reader, Walks with Hawks, a Climbing wall, Mini Golf and so much more. In addition there will be bars , food outlets, retail stalls, and local interest groups representing opportunities available in our community. At 4.00pm the Minch Moo race will take place and in the evening there will be a concert in the Church. Thursday 2nd October – Thursday 20th November, 2025. 7pm – 9pm. Working with grief and loss of a loved one takes a long time. The Bereavement journey is a 7 session programme over 8 weeks which assists bereaved people, or those who have experienced similar, to process their loss. Each session begins with light refreshments and the opportunity to get to know other participants. Two informative videos are then used interspersed with discussion in small groups, facilitated by trained volunteers. The course will be held at the Porch Room, Holy Trinity. Stroud Area Alzheimer Cafe The monthly Alzheimer Café which, for over 20 years has been held in Nailsworth, is moving to the Longfield Community Hospice on Burleigh Lane, Minchinhampton. The next café will be on Wednesday 24th September at Longfield, from 2pm-4pm. The hospice building is fully accessible and there is ample parking on site.The café offers support, advice, discussion time and musical entertainment for those living at home and suffering from any form of dementia. Many attend with a friend or family member, while others are brought by volunteer drivers. Light refreshments are provided and there is ample opportunity to relax and chat in a supportive environment; often, local medical professionals attend and are able to answer specific questions.There is no charge, though donations are welcomed, to help cover expenses. The café is staffed solely by volunteers, many of whom have first-hand experience of Alzheimer’s through having cared for a family member in the past. There is no need to book or register – just turn up; all are welcome, as are potential volunteers helpers. We are redecorating the hall and replacing the curtains. This will give a welcome refresh to support events, classes and activities in an even better ambience. Outside we need to repair the high coving up by the gutters. At the end of August scaffolding will be erected at the front of the Market House and work will continue into September. We will endeavour to limit any inconvenience and please bear with us whilst this essential maintenance is conducted. The Market House will remain open for planned activities.
