Minch Country Fayre 2025

Giffords’ Circus brought such energy and joy to our town – their shows were a sell out for every performance – they come and go with such efficiency and now it is hard to see any evidence they were here.

September again has everything on offer whatever your taste; you can take part in organised walks for Longfield, and/or Minchinhampton Walking and Wildlife Group – or even the Five Valleys Walk.  It is not too late to take part in the Gardening Club’s Flower and Produce Show – just a few days left; concerts, a barn dance in aid of Nkokoto Link and of course Minchinhampton Fayre on 13th September – the bunting is up and we hope to see as many people as possible there.  We would welcome large numbers of children to dress up (or not) and take part in the procession from the Baptist Church down the High Street along with the rally of cars and motor cycles from early 1900s to 2020.  We hope Tony Evans – the Town Crier – will be well enough to open proceedings.

We welcome back Jazz Friday as part of the live music bands taking place all day.  These include Sharon and Mike a local duo.  The Jazz Friday Big Band delivers an eclectic mix of music that goes far beyond the traditional big band sound. From swing and soul to rock, blues, funk and Latin, their repertoire offers something for every listener.  Featuring around 20 talented amateur musicians from the Stroud area – including dynamic male and female vocalists.  Sharon Baker and her guitarist perform pop, jazz and musical covers and original compositions and are based locally.  And our very own Comooonity Choir will sing as well.

The Fayre starts just before noon when the church bells will ring out, with the vintage car parade and children’s pageant through the town (12 noon); and the Avening Band will welcome everyone into The Park, this year’s venue. Early entertainment is provided by Katy Walton’s dance troupe, following by the Dog Show organised by Pamper and Scamper. The Bubble Fairie and Punch & Judy provide entertainment, and there will be free face painting and games. You can Walk with Hawks, and see your future with our Tarot reader. There’s the usual Funfair, and this year Sportily will bring the Climbing Wall for everyone to try. You can have a go in the Glider Simulator, and we’re hoping to see a full-sized glider set up as well. Dazzle Dancers are putting on a show at 2:30pm; and the famous Minch Moo race will start at 4.00pm. There will be hot food for all tastes, including a hog roast provided by The Crown, also pizza, burgers, Sri Lankan food as well as cakes, pastries, fresh coffee and of course ice cream.  Woodchester Wines are running a bar  as are The Good beer Company selling every time of alcohol and soft drinks.

Minchinhampton Flower & Produce Show
The Show takes place in the School Hall on Saturday, 6 September from 12.00noon to 4.00pm. The course will be held at the Porch Room, Holy Trinity.  Registration costs £22 (which is a contribution to the cost of the course handbook and refreshments over the eight evenings.  Grants are available when this charge would be challenging).  Application forms are available at both Churches or downloaded here (from www.minchbc.org.uk) or email courses@minchbc.org.uk.
