MinchLife Newsletter – 1st October 2025

Thank you to everyone who contributed so much to make the Minch Fayre so successful on 13th September.  Overall, we were very lucky with the weather – just two downpours.  The children from the Katy Walton school danced on in the rain and said they loved it.   The car parade was seen by many more people with the new route and many stallholders liked being on the Great Park as they could get reception for their card readers – often difficult in the High Street.  As always there are lessons to learn as, amongst other things, not everyone could hear the bands or amusing anecdotes from the talented commentators.  Sir Tim Lawrence presented the trophies to the successful Moo Race winners and we are extremely grateful to him for coming.

Minchinhampton Flower & Produce Show 6th September
This year’s show turned out to be a roaring success with over 390 exhibits from just over 40 exhibitors. The show also had competitions in baking, jam making, photography, children’s exhibits and arts and crafts.  Much credit must be given to John and Pat Bingle, John Fivash, John Goodwin, the rest of the Committee and volunteers who made it such a memorable day.

Competition was fierce and many of the exhibits were to the highest standards and it was great to see the Allotment Association making such a good impact this year.  Prizes were presented by Kate Silverton (Garden Club Member) the BBC presenter and Broadcaster who gave a wonderful speech at the end.  Parish Council Chair Nick Hurst and Cllr Jimmy Clark (Garden Club Member) were present at the prize giving.  There is not enough space to represent all the prize winners but three spring to mind:  The Parish Council Cup which is awarded to a resident of the Parish, who is not a member of the Gardening Club this year went to the ‘Stitt Family’.  A stunning performance!   The Rutherford Allotment Holder Trophy, a new award this year went to Allotment Holder Gerald South beating off seven of his fellow competitors.  The Club’s own ‘Monty Don’ John Goodwin seemed to win all the other gardening cups.

News from the Post Office
Hi it’s Sairah from Minchinhampton Post Office, I was asked to write a little update on how myself and the Post Office are doing.  On 5th March I opened the doors to my new adventure, very nervous, anxious, thinking have I made the right decision giving up my full time job that i enjoyed to take on Minchinhampton Post Office.  Well I can honestly say I have no regrets, business is getting stronger day by day, month by month, and hopefully will carry on increasing, this is a big thanks to everyone who has supported me.
I was approached by my area and regional manager a month ago saying how happy they are with me, with what I have done to the post office.
Footfall has increased my nearly 300%, so would I like to support other post offices and new sub postmasters.  I thought about it and said why not, had a meeting and happy to say I was offered a role as peer support and a buddy.  Hopefully i will be able to help others in their new adventure, support them to increase their business, and share my knowledge with them.  I just want to reassure everyone that i will be remaining in Minchinhampton Post Office, and just 1 or 2 days a month I will be out and about helping others.
This success has only happened with the support I have had from everyone, a massive thank you to you all.
Please keep supporting me and my post office.
Many thanks Sairah x
PS Please note that I am now offering a house-sitting service in the local area – so pop in and see me if you are interested.

Each session begins with light refreshments and the opportunity to get to know other participants. Two informative videos are then used interspersed with discussion in small groups facilitated by trained volunteers.  The next Course is 7.00pm -9.00pm, Thursday 2nd October – Thursday 20th November 2025.  The course will be held at The Porch Room, Holy Trinity, Minchinhampton. Registration costs £22 which is a contribution to the cost of the course handbook and refreshments over the eight evenings.  (NB: Grants are available where this small charge would be challenging.)  Application forms are available at Holy Trinity or the Baptist Church, or may be downloaded from www.minchbc.org.uk or by email to courses@minchbc.org.uk.  Completed application forms can be scanned and emailed back to courses@minchbc.org.uk or posted to Minchinhampton Baptist Church, Tetbury Street, Minchinhampton, Stroud, Glos.
