Newsletter – 1 January 2022

Happy New Year!    Do hope Covid hasn’t caused too many problems for you all and that you had a happy Christmas.  It started off beautifully with the Community Choir leading carols in the Market Square on Christmas Eve.  They raised a lot of money for various charities at this, and other events, and are always happy to welcome new members.   Choir starts again on Monday, 10 January in the Porch Room, 7.30-9.00pm.  If you would like to join, email Lou Buckley at  Louisebuckley29@aol.com

New Year’s Eve update
The Cotswold Club are still running their New Year’s Eve disco event but please if you feel unwell do not attend.  They will be checking temperatures on the door and you must produce your ticket to gain entry into the club.

The Afternoon Tea concert at Holy Trinity, Minchinhampton on Saturday, 1 January 2022 has had to be cancelled because of ill health.  The next one will be on Saturday, 5 February.

Also, Amberley Scout Group have announced with regret that they will not be holding their annual Burns Night Supper and Quiz in 2022, but hope to be back in January 2023 when they look forward to welcoming all their regular supporters (and new ones!)

Cotteswold Naturalists’ Field Club have also just announced that in view of the sharp rise in COVID-19 cases the Club’s Officers have decided that the first three talks of 2022 will now be delivered via Zoom.  Only 10 members plus 2 visitors attended their meeting on 18 December at The Hub, indicating that members were already prioritising which ‘in-person’ gatherings they wanted to attend.  They hope that by making this short-term adjustment that it will enable a larger number of members to enjoy the next three talks delivered by Zoom.  Anyone interested in joining the club please contact Jane Rowe at janeerowe2015@gmail.com or Tel: 01452 813228.

Christmas Tree Recycling:
In partnership with Just Helping, Longfield Community Hospice will collect and recycle your real tree for a donation to our hospice care, helping to support people when they need them the most.  Their incredible team of volunteers will be collecting real Christmas trees from 9–11 January 2022.  Registration (https://just-helping.org.uk/register-tree/) is now open and closes on Monday 3 January 2022.

Some people have had difficulty registering, and the Hospice advise as follows:
Please could you ask anyone having difficulty entering their email addresses to try closing the existing open window in their browser and opening a new tab. Go back to www.charityxmastreecollection.com and when completing the form rather than using any autofill to populate the email address could they write it in manually in both sections.
This will allow them to then process to the donation section.  If this still doesn’t work call 01453 886868.

PCSO Shane Reynolds Police Community Support Officer 924 – Stroud Local Policing Team has sent the following message:
Stroud police have been made aware of cars driving on the pavements in and around Minchinhampton.
Driving on the pavement is only allowed to gain lawful access to your property or in case of an emergency.
The law states that driving on the footway (or pavement) is an offence under section 72 of the Highways Act 1835 and is also prohibited by rule 145 of the Highway Code.
Minchinhampton has a number of small narrow roads and was not built for so much traffic but this does not negate the fact that it is illegal to drive on the pavement.  All drivers are reminded to be considerate of local residents, many of whose doors open directly onto the narrow pavements, as well as pedestrians who should be free to use the pavements safely.
In the next few months Stroud Rural Policing team will be in the area to educate and raise awareness in order to protect local residents and visitors.
What you should do if you see someone driving on the pavement: ring and report using the number 101 or you can report it online via the Gloucestershire Constabulary click on Report and then Antisocial Behaviour links.
