Hello everyone, Do look up this week as there is the chance to see the planets if the weather co-operates. Apparently the sky on Friday, 28 February will feature a rare seven-planet alignment – the planetary parade – Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune and this will not happen again until 2040! Do read more in Wayne Young’s article “The Night Sky” in the Parish magazine. Post Office All change at the Post Office. The Bereavement Journey® is a 7-session programme which assists bereaved people, or those who have experienced similar, to process their loss. Each session begins with light refreshments and the opportunity to get to know other participants. Two informative videos are then used interspersed with discussion in small groups facilitated by trained volunteers. The next course dates are Thursday, 24 April – Thursday 5 June. Depending on the number of guest applications – one or two courses may be run in the late afternoon or evening. The course will be held at The Porch Room, Holy Trinity Church, Minchinhampton. Registration costs £22 which is a contribution to the cost of the course handbook and refreshments over the seven evenings. (NB: Grants are available where this small charge would be challenging.) Application forms are available at Holy Trinity or the Baptist Church, or may be downloaded from www.minchbc.org.uk or by email to courses@minchbc.org.uk. Completed application forms can be scanned and emailed back to courses@minchbc.org.uk or posted to Minchinhampton Baptist Church, Tetbury Street, Minchinhampton, Stroud. Glos. GL6 9JH Longfield Community Hospice joins national campaign to change perceptions of hospice care Longfield Community Hospice is proud to be one of over 143 hospices taking part in the “This is Hospice Care” campaign, a national initiative facilitated by Hospice UK which aims to raise awareness about the vital role hospices play in communities and to shift public perceptions of hospice care. The campaign, which launched on 17 February, is set to capture hearts and minds through a powerful TV advert based on real life hospice stories and social media activity by various hospices nationwide. By coming together, this national campaign aims to encourage people to consider leaving a gift in their will to support their local hospice, ensuring they can continue to provide essential compassionate and specialist care for future generations. “We’re thrilled to be part of this important campaign that not only highlights the critical work that hospices do, but also the lasting impact that Gifts in Wills can have on our ability to continue providing care here in Gloucestershire” – Clare Davis, CEO Longfield Community Hospice. “We encourage Gloucestershire residents to consider the profound impact that a gift in their Will can have as shown by Trizia’s story on our website, which we are proud to say has also been used as part of the national Hospice UK Campaign.” Trizia chose to leave a legacy gift to Longfield Community Hospice when she died in 2023, having worked as lead palliative care nurse for Longfield – then known as Cotswold Care, for a number of years in the 1990’s. She wanted to ensure that others in the community would receive the same support that she saw being offered. Legacy giving has made a significant difference to Longfield’s hospice care. Last year (2023-2024), legacy gifts accounted for 22% of the charity’s fundraising income, supporting continued care for those with life-limiting illness and their families. For more information about the “This is Hospice Care” campaign or to find out how you can support Longfield, please visit https://longfield.org.uk/ Minchinhampton Community Library Has lots of activities going on during March, please see the calendar on their website here for more details.
