Dear everyone
After the enjoyable Country Fayre in September, Minch Life has some money to share with local charities/organisations. The recipients this time will be Horsfall House, The Market House, Longfield Hospice, Minchinhampton School PTA, the Nkokoto Link, Minch Rugby Club (children’s section), Girl Guiding and the Youth Club. We are very pleased to be able to support these important local organisations in this way.
Look out for our next activity: organising Christmas trees for the High Street and Churchyard, and a Lights Switch-On planned for Sunday, 30th November from 4.30pm, with a bar, live music and the choir singing.
Farewell to the Horsfall House shop with heartfelt thanks
It is with deep regret that we see the closure of the Horsfall House charity shop on Minchinhampton High Street. We know this is a disappointment to many residents and visitors who supported the shop and its mission, and we want to extend our sincerest thanks to everyone who played a part in its journey. Since opening in 2023, the shop has been more than just a retail space with its warm and welcoming presence in the heart of the town, helping to raise vital funds for Horsfall House’s residential care, day centre and home care for older people. It also served as a visible reminder of the charity’s commitment to the local community. Duncan Wood, Chair of Trustees at Horsfall House, said: “We would like to sincerely thank all our volunteers for their time, energy and commitment over the past two years, and prior to that with the shop in West End and the regular pop-up shop. Their support has been invaluable and this project simply wouldn’t have been possible without them. We also extend our thanks to the shop manager, and to the landlords for having given us this opportunity. ”While this chapter has come to a close, the team at Horsfall House is exploring new opportunities to continue raising funds and staying connected with the community. To everyone who visited, donated, volunteered and cheered us on – thank you for your support.
A note from the Parish Council
The nights are getting darker so much more dangerous for cows. This has already been a bad year with 5 deaths to date so please drive slowly especially at night. 25mph is the maximum speed at which you can stop safely with dipped headlights so please bear this in mind when driving at night.
On Saturday, 8th November there will be fireworks at Minchinhampton School. Some cattle may well still be out. They find the loud bangs frightening, so please drive very slowly and watch out for cattle charging to escape from the noise that evening. And please – no parking on the Great Park or on the common.
Minchinhampton Fireworks – Saturday, 8th November
Would you like FREE entry to Minchinhampton Fireworks Display, plus a drink and burger too? All you need to do is VOLUNTEER!
This is a wonderful community event that raises much needed funds for the school but they still need help on the night, so please lend a hand if you can. It’s lots of fun and you will still be able to enjoy the evening. Please email enquiries@minchpta.com if you can help.
Longfield Hospice
Longfield calls for Volunteers for their Christmas Tree Campaign. This year the collections will take place between 10th and 13th January and will be run with the help of more than 180 volunteers; all committed to helping Longfield raise much-needed funds and support the environment through this green campaign. Households will be able to book their tree collection via the Just Helping website from 14th November (www.just-helping.org.uk/register-tree) but before then Longfield is encouraging volunteers to sign up by emailing events@longfield.org.uk. The charity is also keen to hear from companies willing to sponsor a van and fuel or provide volunteers and vans. All money raised helps to fund the hospice’s vital work supporting patients living with life limiting illness and at the end of life, as well as their families and carers.
Longfield Hospice – Art Exhibition – ‘Remembering…’
The Yard Gallery, Stroud – 30th November – 6th December 10.00 am – 4.00pm
to be Held in Memory of Two Local Artists. Art from three local artists will be brought together in an exhibition in Stroud for a week and with over 25% of proceeds going to Longfield Community Hospice. Held in memory of both Rachel Stevens (a local artist and Alexander Technique practitioner), and Chris Binding (a Bristol based contemporary fine artist), this exhibition will combine a mixture of fine art prints, original artworks, and practical and decorative ceramic pieces. The work of ceramicist, Chris White, (Hookshouse Pottery, Tetbury) will also be on show.
John Brough the organiser was originally moved to organise this exhibition to celebrate the life and works of his late wife, Rachel, who had been busy creating when she became ill with cancer a few years ago. “Two Years ago, Longfield provided wonderful care for my wife Rachel Stevens in the last months of her life here at home. Prior to her illness, Rachel had been building up to an exhibition of her paintings, but this was never possible. I would now like to make the exhibition happen but combining it with fundraising for Longfield.” – John Brough. Sadly, whilst organising this exhibition, John’s closest friend Chris Binding (who was already signed up to be part of this exhibition), also suffered a short illness and passed away. ‘Remembering’… refers to both the viewing friends and family of the artists remembering the artists and the memories evoked in the artwork shown and passed on through the works.
