Newsletter – 1 July 2022

Hello everyone,

We do hope everyone enjoyed the Picnic in the Park to celebrate the Queen’s Jubilee.   Over 700 people came to the school field and enjoyed the music and fun.  The weather could have been kinder but the children had a wonderful time.  The Children’s Entertainer was first class and 30 to 40 children attended each show.  For those of you who didn’t get a Souvenir Programme they are available free at the Library and some will also be given to the School for the children to take home.   The edition includes interesting articles and pictures from 1952 onwards.

MinchLife could really do with more people to help put on events such as the next Fayre which will take place on Saturday, 9 September 2023.   With that in mind we are having drinks in the garden at Leigh Elliott’s house, 3 Parsons Court, on Sunday, 10 July from 5pm.  Do come along and join us.  It is weather dependent of course.   If you feel you could volunteer some time to help bring the community together at any of our events – do get in touch.  Email us at info@minchlife.com

The Market House and MinchLife are also holding a Karaoke night on Saturday, 30 July.  Free entry and there will be great music and prizes.  Do come along!

Tom Long’s Post
The 4-page July 2022 issue of Tom Long’s Post is now available to read on Minchinhampton Parish Council’s website via this link: www.minchinhampton-pc.gov.uk/uploads/july-2022-issue-final.pdf
If you would prefer to have it delivered directly to your inbox each month, please email deputyclerk@minchinhampton-pc.gov.uk to be added to the mailing list, or give staff a call on 01453 731186.
Would you rather read a printed version?   Please do pop into the Parish office at The Trap House, West End, Minchinhampton from next Tuesday, 5 July,  when they should be ready for collection (the office is manned Monday, Tuesday and Thursday from 8.30am to 4.00pm).

Road Closures
You will see in Tom Long’s Post there are details of a temporary road closure in West End from its junction at Cuckoo Row to its junction with the High Street.  There are also road-signs alerting drivers to a road closure on Cirencester Road in early July (near the roundabout at Aston Down) and we have also heard Culver Hill will be closed in August.

Minchinhampton Community Library
Minchinhampton’s bespoke Summer Reading Challenge, Minchinhampton Reading Warriors – Flying High, will take place this Saturday, 2 July until the end September.  It will be open to all school aged children as well as those starting school this September.  Children can sign up for free at the community library as soon as it starts.   Throughout the challenge, library volunteers support children, helping them to explore a wide range of different types of books and enjoy a range of creative activities and events.  Children receive stickers each time they finish a book and there’s a £5.00 book token for everyone who completes the Challenge (limited to first 100 placed).

It is hoped to hold Craft Sessions for children in the library during summer.  Check MinchLife and Library Facebook for further news of dates and times.

Opening hours:  Monday 2 – 4.30pm, Tuesday 10am – 12 noon, 2 – 4.30pm, Thursday 2 – 4.30 pm, Friday 10am – 12 noon, 2 – 4.30pm, Saturday 10am – 12 noon.

1st Amberley Guides took part in a challenge weekend called Strategy recently.  ‘16 girls from Amberley went to this event with over 2,000 participants, all in Scouting or Guiding.  There were torrential downpours but the girls were amazing. There were 30 different bases spread over 3,000 acres. 334 teams took part and all of Amberley’s teams came in the top half.  They took 166th, 27th and a fantastic 5th place!  They were the highest scoring girl guide team!  We are so proud of them all’ said their leader, Nicola Young.
