Hello everyone, There is so much going on this month – full details of events below but they include Horsfall House’s Annual walk (run/jog) and the MinchCan Garage sale on Sunday, 9th June. At least three opportunities to listen to glorious music with the Stuart Singers, Stroud Choral Society and the Thames Head Singers and the chance to watch the talented Minchinhampton Players perform “The Ladykillers”. Our primary school is holding its Summer Fete on Saturday, 15th – entrance is free and it will be an action-packed day with live music, bar, barbecue and numerous stalls and activities. Amberley Shop celebrates its hugely successful opening a year ago and MinchLife Open Gardens are on Sunday, 23rd June from 2pm – 6pm. There are twelve gardens easily accessible around the town and there will be refreshments plus plant sales under the Market House. Proceeds will help raise funds for the Fayre next year. Tickets are £5 and will be available from 1st June at Market Stores and on the day under the Market House. Big Green Week – news from MinchCan: The Big Green Garage trail is running from the undercroft of the Market House on Sunday, 9th June between 2-5pm. There will be refreshments, maps if you haven’t downloaded them, a treasure hunt for the kids, a clothes swap and a repair cafe. From there, there will be 24 locations scattered around Minchinhampton where locals are aiming to declutter their pre-loved but reusable items. The Repair Cafe is being run by a fantastic local willing to give up his time to help us repair our broken items that would only end up in landfill if we didn’t fix them. He will be there between 2-5pm also, but we do need a little notice before hand to know what he needs to bring tools wise. So email canminch@gmail.com to let us know. The Clothes Swap/Swish is also running at the same time. We have already received many beautiful items which have been gifted to us or swapped from previous events. All you need to do is bring some clothes in a good clean state to swap or pay as you feel. A note from Minchinhampton Gardening Club: Let’s celebrate Minchinhampton in Bloom 2024 with a special display of baskets and tubs for the delight of locals and visitors alike. This year the baskets and tubs are requested to be in colours of your choice so whether you are a pastel or a hot colours person you have a chance to show off your skills. The Competition is open to all residents whose premises are within the conservation area in the town. This competition is run as part of the Gardening Club’s Annual Show on Saturday, 7th September 2024. The ‘Grover Cup for the Residents’ will be awarded to a resident who lives within the town conservation area (in a house where the frontage is visible from the street/road) who displays the best floral display at the front of their property throughout the summer. The winner will be awarded the cup and a £20 gardening voucher. Garden vouchers of £15 and £10 will be awarded to the runners up in second and third place. A further three vouchers of £5 will be awarded to those who are classed as highly commended. Judging will take place at the end of June, mid-July and the end of August. Winners will be announced at the Annual Show and will be awarded the prizes on show day at 4.00pm. (The conservation area for this competition is as follows: Tetbury Street from the town to the junction of Friday Street, Friday Street, Well Hill down to the junction of Kings Street, Chapel Lane from the town to just before Chapel Farm, West End to the junction of Dr Browns Road, Butt Street to the junction with Stuart House, Bell Lane to the junction with School Road, High Street). Any further enquiries about this competition should be made to Brenda Chapman on 01453 887624. Minchinhampton Cricket Club – New Members Offer: Nestled beyond the allotments, just a stone’s throw from the town centre, is the historic Minchinhampton Cricket Club. Set in the beautiful surroundings of Stuart Playing Fields, the club now has a thriving Youth set-up which includes three age groups. The club also offers adults’ cricket which, whilst being competitive across our two Saturday teams, prides itself on being enjoyable and welcoming to all. The pavilion has recently been refurbished inside and out, and the facilities are better than ever. The club has been in existence for more than 190 years, with evidence of matches being played with local rivals back in the 1830s – and the club has been interwoven with the local community ever since. Now is a great time to become a new member. Whilst the youth section is fully-subscribed, the club is welcoming new adult members and has a half-price offer for the rest of 2024 (just £40 for a season of cricket!). Whether you’re the next Ben Stokes, or haven’t picked up a bat or ball for 30 years, they’d love to have you down at the ground. To find out more please contact them at info@minchinhamptoncricketclub.com. Minchinhampton Allotments: Minchinhampton Allotment Association (MAA) was established in February to work with Minchinhampton Parish Council (MPC) for the running and maintenance of the allotments. Working as a team, the waiting list of 44 people has now been eliminated. This was achieved by a combination of creating an additional 7 plots, natural turnover and people withdrawing from the waiting list. Working with the new tenants has seen improved cultivation of the plots and a more supportive tenant community. MAA has now created an events calendar, and has agreed to join in Minchinhampton Life Open Gardens event on Sunday, June 23rd from 2 to 6 pm. We are pleased to invite all the Open Gardens ticket holders to come and see our allotments and meet tenants. Dogs are welcome too, though, we ask that theyare kept on a tight lead, to keep to the main drive way and not walk or foul on allotments. A couple of plots are now available at the time of writing, and if you would like to apply, please do get in touch with the Deputy Clerk at MPC. 80th Anniversary of the D-day landings: Minchinhampton Branch of the Royal British Legion will be gathering at Minchinhampton Holy Trinity Parish Church on Thursday, 6th June at 10.45am to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of the D-day landings. The Branch Standard will be paraded and a bugler will sound the Last Post at 11.00am which will be followed by a short service conducted by the Rector. All are welcome to attend. Patients’ Participation Group The Patient Participation Group (PPG) for Minchinhampton Surgery is changing the venue for committee meetings, to which all Minchinhampton Surgery patients are welcome. In future all meetings will be held in the Day Centre Room, Horsfall House. This applies to the three already announced committee meetings still to come this calendar year. The dates and times remain unchanged. In case you may wish to confirm these details in your diary, they are all Wednesdays, starting at 7.00 pm: 3rd July, 4th September and 6th November.
