Newsletter 1 December 2021

Dear all,

MinchLife have always tried to make the town look festive at Christmas.  The Robbs have, as in the past, generously donated ten small trees for the High Street, a large tree for the Undercroft and a similar tree for the Vestry Cottage grounds.   As we have met difficulties putting festoon lighting across or down the High Street, we are planning to concentrate on lighting the top of the town.   We have received generous donations from the David Thomas Trust, Howard Tenens Logistics Ltd and Minchinhampton Parish Council.  Henrys and the Crown have also offered to contribute to the costs as their buildings will particularly benefit.  We are extremely grateful for this support.
The Market House is already lit in a similar way so hopefully this Christmas will be brighter and better!

Christmas Trees 2021

Minchinhampton Christmas Trees have a fabulous selection of fresh, top quality Christmas Trees from the West Country.   Grown on mixed plantations with minimal resources, to protect rich wildlife habitats.  Harvested areas replanted annually to maintain a natural environment.  Pip and Dave Robb, from Minchinhampton Christmas Trees, very generously donate trees for Minchinhampton High Street, the Churchyard and the Market House.  Do support them in return!
Now open 9am-5pm daily, until Friday 17 December 2021 at Minchinhampton Scout Hut, 16 Dr Brown’s Road, Minchinhampton, GL6 9BT. Order by Monday 13 December, by phone (07708 778301), or click here to order online.

There is also a Christmas Tree Store at Winstones Icecream who also supply Rental Christmas Trees.  If you are worried about the environmental impact of cutting down a Christmas tree each year, then this is the tree for you.   Now open Monday-Friday: 9:30am – 5:00pm (5.30pm on Saturday and Sunday) at Winstones Ice Cream, Greenacres, Bownham, Stroud, GL5 5BX.  https://www.winstonesicecream.co.uk/christmas-trees/  Tel: 01453 873270.  You can also order your rental tree here.

Longfield Hospice:  Tree Recycling scheme.  In partnership with Just Helping, Longfield Community Hospice will collect and recycle your real tree for a donation to their hospice care, helping to support people when they need us the most.   Registration is now open and closes on Monday 3 January 2022:    https://www.longfield.org.uk/event/christmas-tree-recycling/

Kick in the Head Productions presents Musically Speaking
Raconteur and pianist to the stars, Andrew D Brewis shares a lifetime of experience from the wings and orchestra pits of theatreland.  He is joined by West End star Maria Kesselman (Phantom of the Opera, The Sound of Music and many more) to perform the finest songs from the legends of Shaftesbury Avenue and Broadway.

Thursday, 9 December to Saturday, 11 December at 7.30pm. (Tickets £12)
Hexagon Theatre Company presents Breaking the Ice by Carolyn Spice.
For the Mansell family, Christmas is a time of well-established traditions and rituals. Not this year though, as a sudden change in the weather sends them and their unexpected guests along a completely different path.  Breaking the Ice was written especially for Hexagon, by a member of the company. It is the first production of this heart-warming, and often funny, play about friendship, marriage and the prospect of retirement.

As always, please do get in touch if you would like us to add anything to our newsletters or if you see any omissions or alterations.   If you know of any newcomers to the town please do tell them about Minchlife and this newsletter.

On behalf of MinchLife we wish you all a very Happy Christmas and good wishes for 2022.
