SUMMARY:Box Bar
DESCRIPTION:Box Bar continues to lubricate the village on the first and third Friday of every month.  It is well supported and has become a very enjoyable social hub for the village. \nIt serves wine\, prosecco\, gin and tonic\, organic cider\, organic lager and beers from Stroud brewery\, plus a selection of soft drinks.  The draft organic pale ale on sale is now gluten free. \nThe bar has a card reader\, so you don’t need to bring cash.  The profits from the bar help to fund the Village Hall.

SUMMARY:Coach Trip: Leamington Spa and Guide Dog Visit (Ian Jarvis)
DESCRIPTION:A behind–the–scenes tour of Guide Dogs’ national centre and/or day trip to Leamington Spa. \nWe’ll be heading to the Regency town of Royal Leamington Spa – and offering you a choice. You can either have a whole day in this lovely town (bit more on it in a mo). Or the second option is to look round the town first before heading – after lunch – to the nearby national centre for Guide Dogs for the Blind Association. \nWe’ve booked a visitor experience with behind–the–scenes access to the UK’s only breeding centre for guide dogs. You will get to see gorgeous puppies\, from viewing platforms\, as they eat\, play and snooze with their siblings in the Puppy Block. A member of the charity’s team will guide us around this state–of–the–art facility and fill us in on the secrets of breeding these life–changing dogs. There are opportunities to walk using sensory aids\, which give a brief insight into living with sight–loss. The experience will last justover two hours and will conclude with light refreshments and the chance to visit the gift shop. \nFor those of you opting for a whole day in Leamington\, you’ll have a treasure–trove of independent\, specialist outlets alongside high street brands. And all within really lovely architecture\, some beautiful public parks\, and wide boulevards. There is also a fab selection of cafes and restaurants. Highly recommended. \nguidedogs.org.uk and royal–leamington–spa.co.uk \n0900–0915h Nailsworth/Box/Minch pickups1100h LeamingtonTBD Guide Dog siteTBD Leave for home \nCoach £27\, Guide Dogs Tour (senior) £10 – Total £37 per person

SUMMARY:Giffords Circus in Minchinhampton
DESCRIPTION:LES ENFANTS DU PARADIS\nLes Enfants du Paradis\, will take inspiration from French Romanticism in the mid-19th Century. \n“Les Enfants du Paradis will be our most lavish show yet! And with romance at its heart\, the show’s narrative will provide a playful context for some of the most intriguing\, exciting and beautiful acts ever to appear at Giffords.” Cal McCrystal\, Director \nLes Enfants du Paradis opens on 6 April at Fennells Farm\, Stroud\, the home of Giffords Circus in the Cotswolds\, before touring to 13 venues\, with the bonus of an extra week in London at Chiswick House & Gardens. \nAward winning and internationally renowned production designer takis\, whose elegant work has graced the stages of the world’s greatest opera houses\, will once again create lavish sets and period costumes that will transport audiences to a magical – and unexpected – world under the canvas of the big top. \nTweedy the clown has been at the heart of Giffords Circus for over 15 years\, bringing new comic routines and skills to the show each year. At the centre of the story and action\, he makes a welcome return in Les Enfants du Paradis\, with his unique brand of slapstick comedy guaranteed to have everyone in stitches. \nTweedy will be joined by actor and singer Michael Fletcher\, who previously starred in Giffords Circus shows Xanadu in 2019 and The Feast in 2020. New acts for Les Enfants du Paradis include Antony Cesar\, an exciting 20-year-old aerialist who won the golden buzzer on ‘France’s Got Talent’ in 2020. Antony’s parents are artistes Pat Bradford and Kate Smyth who appeared in early Giffords Circus shows with their hand-balancing act\, Kate is also Giffords Circus choreographer. \nAlso starring in Les Enfants du Paradis are: \nSergi Buka\, an amazing illusionist\, shadow artist and lanternist who will perform a poetic Chinese shadow act. The Skating Medini (Asia and Dylan Medini) – a dynamic high-speed roller-skating act from one of Italy’s oldest circus families. Amanda Sandow with her beautiful liberty pony act. Foot juggling and aerialist artistes Romy and Alex Michael. The Luna Girls – aerial hoop duo Marina Alvarado de Luna and Markia Ashley Gould. \nThe Ethio-selam Troupe\, a very exciting Ethiopian acrobatic troupe\, who will perform the double Chinese pole. The Ethio-selam Troupe are managed by Bibi and Bichu\, Giffords alumni and jugglers who appeared in more than 10 Giffords Circus shows and were adored members of the circus. \n  \nTo book call 01453 800200 Book online giffordscircus.com

SUMMARY:Film night at the Market House - "Living" starring Bill Nighy
DESCRIPTION:‘LIVING’ starring Bill Nighy at Minchinhampton Market House Friday 11th August\, doors open 7pm.  Licensed bar. Tickets £6 from the Market Stores (cash only) available now. \nThis is the story of a straight-laced Civil Servant Mr Williams (Bill Nighy) who is approaching retirement and his unexpected reward for a life of pointless tedium\, is the news that he has an incurable disease and has a life expectancy of a year. He realises that he has been to all intents and purposes dead for all his working life and sets about ‘living’ for the rest of his allotted time. The screenplay is by Kazuo Ishiguro\, based on the 1950s Japanese film ‘Ikuru’ or ‘To live.’ This film is also set in the 1950s\, in London\, so if nothing else you can play the game of spot the anachronistic double decker Routemaster London bus – but the film has been critically acclaimed with a superb performance by Bill Nighy. \n  \nLIVING’ starring Bill Nighy at Minchinhampton Market House Friday 11th August\, doors open 7pm.
