SUMMARY:Minchinhampton Movie Night: Elvis
DESCRIPTION:Our next movie at Minchinhampton Market House (delayed a bit by the Easter break) will be the biopic ‘Elvis’ starring Tom Hanks and the BAFTA ‘Best Actor’ award winner Austin Butler. More than a mere jukebox movie\, this film tells the story of Elvis from the point of view of the singer’s enigmatic  manager\, Colonel Tom Parker\, who apparently was neither a Colonel nor a Parker. The Colonel was born Andreas Cornelis van Kuijik in the Netherlands and entered the USA illegally when he was 20. He was given the honorary title of colonel by the governor of Louisiana as a reward for Parker’s political support. As this is a fairly long film (153 minutes) we will be dispensing with our usual ‘B’ movie format and providing a short intermission approximately half way though the main feature. The film is directed by the talented Australian  film maker Baz Luhrmann (Strictly Ballroom\, Romeo+Juliet\, Moulin Rouge!\, Australia and The Great Gatsby.) \n‘ELVIS’ at Minchinhampton Market House 7.30pm Friday April 14th. Tickets £6 from The Market Stores (cash only) available from  Monday March 20th.
