SUMMARY:Minchinhampton Walking and Wildlife Group - Westonbirt.
DESCRIPTION:Led by Clare Goodrick.  Meet at 10 am at Bell Lane to car share. \n  \nClare suggests meeting at the Bell Lane Car Park at 10 am to car share to the pretty village of Leighterton. This  circular walk begins and ends at The Royal Oak\, Leighterton where we can have lunch.  We will meet those wanting to drive there separately at 10.30 in the pub car park. We can park in the car park and dogs are allowed in the pub. [The Royal Oak\, Leighterton GL8 8UN 01666 890250 info@royaloakleighterton.co.uk]\n\n \nLeaving the pub car park we take a short walk through the village to join the Monarch’s Way across some fields. There are 3 stone stiles and small dogs or elderly dogs might need a bit of help getting over them. There are lovely open views from up here and then the path dips down into a very pretty wood with wild garlic\, wood anemones\,  bluebells\, primroses and violets.  We will then join the public footpath through Westonbirt. Dogs are allowed off lead in this part of the Arboretum but please keep to the public path\, which is firm and dry.  It should be a lovely walk with the trees coming into leaf\, especially several unusual varieties of Oaks and Acers\, and rarer Wingnuts. There are 9 varieties of Bee in the Arboretum and of course lots of birds nesting\, including Nuthatches.\n\nWe emerge at the other end of Westonbirt and then loop round across fields to return to Leighterton. There are another couple of stiles and there may be cattle in one of the fields. Unless we have a spell of dry weather\, there will be mud! The last stretch is on a quiet tarmac road.\n\nA good lunch can be had at the Royal Oak. A menu is attached and they would like us to pre-order. Please send your choices by Friday 28th Aprilto Clare at: goodrick.clarke@gmail.com\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSunday Lunch Menu \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTo Start \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nBreaded brie wedges with redcurrant sauce                                                                                         \n\n\n\n\n           7.95 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nBrussels Pate\, toast & chutney (gfo) \n\n\n\n\n7.95 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHomemade soup of the day(gfo/veg) \n\n\n\n\n7.5 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHomemade flatbread\, hummus & salad (vg/gf) \n\n\n\n\n7 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nCrispy squid with a sweet chilli mayo \n\n\n\n\n7.5 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n      \nMains \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoast topside of beef\, Yorkie  pud\, roast potatoes\, vegetables & pan gravy(gfo) \n\n\n\n\n18 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoast pork loin\, Yorkie\,roast potatoes\, stuffing\, vegetables\, & pan gravy(gfo) \n\n\n\n\n18 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nRoast Chicken\, Yorkie\, stuffing\, roast potatoes\, vegetables & pan gravy   (gfo)                                                                                                               \n\n\n\n\n             18 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nVegetarian or Vegan roast\, roast potatoes\, vegetables & vegan gravy (veg) \n\n\n\n\n17 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nFish\, chips\, garden peas& tartare sauce (gf) \n\n\n\n\n16.5 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nPork sausages\, creamy mash\, veg & gravy(gfo) \n\n\n\n\n16 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nVenison burger\, topped with cheese\, fries and slaw (gfo) \n\n\n\n\n16 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nPuddings \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTreacle tart and custard \n\n\n\n\n7.5 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nVegan choc cake with Bertie’s choc Ice cream (vg/df) \n\n\n\n\n7.5 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nHoneycomb & choc cheesecake with salted caramel ice cream \n\n\n\n\n            7.5 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nLemon tart with Chantilly cream \n\n\n\n\n          7.5 \n\n\n\n\n\n\nSticky toffee pudding & vanilla ice cream(gf) \n\n\n\n\n7.5 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSides \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFrench fries\, Mixed salad\, Cheesy leeks \n\n\n\n\n\n4 \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\ngf = gluten free\, gfo = gluten free option\, vg = vegan\, vgo = vegan option\, gfo* = gluten free option in advance \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n  \n\n  \nWe are an informal group of friends who enjoy walking\, wildlife\, good company and the occasional trip the pub.
