SUMMARY:Coach trip to Abergavenny centre and market with Ian Jarvis
DESCRIPTION:This delightful Welsh town is great on any day of the week – but we’re visiting on market day\, a bustling under-cover shopping experience in the heart of the town. (Don’t miss out on the Welsh cakes – and there’s plenty more besides\, from all kinds of eatables to bric-a-brac and clothes.) \nThe museum (entry free) is set within the grounds of a ruined Norman Castle\, and tells the story of this historic town\, from prehistory to present day. (Most areas are accessible to wheelchairs.) \nFive minutes’ stroll from the town centre are the Linda Vista gardens. Once a private garden\, it’s now a public park featuring some rare orchids and shrubs\, as well as lovely displays of more commonly found plants and flowers. \nFor a tranquil walk\, there are the Castle Meadows\, which meander alongside the River Usk. And for those interested in churches\, St Mary’s\, in the centre\, is known as the Westminster Abbey of Wales; not only is it impressive in size\, but it also has some first-class monuments. \nMore information: http://www.visitabergavenny.co.uk/ or TIC enquiries 01873 853254  \n  \n0800h-0815h Nailsworth/Box/Minch pickups \n0945h Abergavenny \n1500h Leave for home \nMore details from Ian Jarvis

SUMMARY:What's next for the Brimscombe Mill Community
DESCRIPTION:The Brimscombe Mill community is being lost to become warehousing.\n\n\n\nIn a surprising development\, all of the social enterprises at Brimscombe Mill no longer have a home due to the property’s unexpected sale. This space\, which we’ve lovingly enhanced with hundreds of thousands in renovations\, is more than a venue. It embodies our commitment to this community.\n\n\n\nThis is a shock to us all. We had been trying to engage with our old landlord to purchase the building or extend the lease\, but he sold it in secret without any chance to counter. We have spoken to the new landlord\, but he has no interest in letting us stay on site.\n\n\nWe are exploring other options for a home but we haven’t found anything viable yet. This puts all of the social enterprises and 53 jobs at risk.\n\n\n\nThis isn’t just the end of our lease\, it’s a matter of land justice\, impacting a community built on countless hours renovating the property\, and significant investment in materials. This community asset is at risk of being lost due to the way land laws work and the way the broken “system” works. It doesn’t feel transparent\, fair or right – and now we face destruction.\n\n\nHead to The Brimscombe Mill website (https://www.brimscombe-mill.org.uk/warehouseupdate ) for further information.

SUMMARY:MinchLife Walking and Wild Life Group - Woodland walk
DESCRIPTION:Led by Sue Parker and Judy Little \n  \nSue Parker and Judy Little will lead the next walk on 24 March\, which will be in Workman’s Wood and Lord and Ladies Wood near Sheepscombe. These are part of the Cotswolds Beechwoods Special Area of Conservation – of international importance for wildlife. The walk might be muddy in parts if there’s a lot of rain beforehand. \nThere’s limited parking at Old Ebworth Centre to start the walk\, so please meet at Bell Lane car park in Minch at 10am to car-share. \nLunch can be booked afterwards at The Bear at Bisley but has to be pre-ordered. Please select from the attached menu and let Sue Parker know what you’d like before 18th March. (See her email address in the cc.)The roasts available will be beef\, pork\, chicken and nut roast. \nThe Walking and Wildlife Group are an informal group of friends who enjoy\, walking\, wildlife\, good company and the occasional trip to the pub.  You are very welcome to join us – but entirely at your own risk! \nWe generally walk on the last Sunday of each month\, starting at 10.30 and finishing by lunchtime\, unless otherwise specified in the programme. \nIf the weather is very poor\, we will cancel by email by 9am on the relevant morning. \n  \nAll walks use public footpaths which may be steep\, rough and slippery.  Prepare accordingly. \nPlease contact karencolebourn@gmail.com to be added to the circulation list.
