DESCRIPTION:We are an informal group of friends who enjoy walking\, wildlife\, good company and the occasional visit to the pub. \n  \nThe walk we were planning for end of September\, which we now proposing for August 28th\, starts at Horsley and heads up through Kingscote Woods and over fields to Hill Barn\, then round to Binley Farm\, skirting Kingscote Woods again to get back to Horsley along the high ridge stretching east from Woodleaze farm. \n \nMeet at 10:30am at the car park in Horsley\, by the side of the road on the left as you come into the village. If this car park is full\, turn left just before the pub (The Hog) along Priory Fields\, until you see the village hall and village shop on the right. There is usually more than adequate parking in front of the village hall.\n\n \nOS Maps route planner says 6.3km with about 100m of climbing over a distance of a kilometre shortly after starting. The rest of the walk has some up and down\, but reasonably gentle and not in one lump. We tend to complete it in 90 minutes\, at our brisk pace\, but a group should certainly manage in 2.5 hours. For those who want a Sunday pub visit\, the Hog is almost next to the car parking.\n\nPlease contact karencolebourn@gmail.com to be added to the circulation list. \nIf people want a lift meet in Bell Lane Car Park at 10 am but ring first to arrange lifts.

They are stunning. As a result\, we’ve booked them for the morning –\nthey’re not open to the public very often outside the National Gardens Scheme – along with\ncoffee and cake for us all in the Orangerie. You can see more extensive photos at\nhttps://www.highnamcourt.co.uk/\nBut\, in short\, this wonderful 40-acre Victorian garden was originally set out by the artist\nThomas Gambier Parry. His vision included ornamental lakes\, shrubberies\, Pulhamite water\ngardens (now listed) with grottos and fernery\, and woodland. Not only was he an\naccomplished painter – responsible for the magnificent frescos in Highnam Church – he was\nalso a musician and art collector. Not surprising\, then\, that – by 1874 – he had created a\ngarden that rivalled any other in the country.\nAs the 20th century dawned\, however\, the gardens began to fall into neglect. By 1994\, when\nthe rescue mission began\, they were totally overgrown.\nFor the past 25 years\, owner Roger Head has been lovingly restoring the gardens to their\nformer glory\, with many new additions. DESCRIPTION:https://www.tourofbritain.co.uk/stages/stage-six/?fbclid=IwAR3hTYC4AZZysHKytAjDYxVH8AKqZxcohw2wGm6cq6b8KuI4RIAMsq-yNF0 \nGloucestershire will play a starring role when the Tour of Britain\, the UK’s most prestigious cycle race\, heads to the county later this year. \nIt will host the sixth stage of the race on Friday 9 September\, marking the first time that the picturesque county will have provided the backdrop for a full day of the event. \nWith the start and finish locations separated by a little over 10 miles\, fans will easily be able to attend both on race day\, which will further add to the atmosphere at this free-to-watch sporting spectacle. Stage six’s route will head into the Cotswolds before approaching the finish by the historic Gloucester Docks via South Gloucestershire. \nGloucestershire County Council’s commitment to supporting tourism and active travel will see the Women’s Tour\, the UK’s most prestigious women’s cycle race\, also visit the county in 2022 for a Tewkesbury to Gloucester stage (Wednesday 8 June\, albeit using a different route. \nMore details of stage six will be announced in Summer 2022.

DESCRIPTION:A cycle\, walk or ride from church to church to raise money for Holy Trinity Churches in Minchinhampton\, Box and Amberley and Gloucestershire Historic Churches Trust. \nIn Ride+Stride\, Cyclists\, Walkers and Horse Riders raise sponsorship money by visiting churches and chapels on any route of their choice – most people will be willing to sponsor you for a ‘set amount’ regardless of the number of places you visit. You can also check our list of churches that will be open on the day.  The money raised (before Gift Aid) will be shared equally between GHCT and the church of your choice.
