(In fact\, we took out family life-membership when the children were small) … And then realised there was no way Ming vases were compatible with our middle child. Another story.   But Stourhead is one of our favourites! We even have a painting of it in our living room. \nThis 2\,650-acre estate\, lying at the source of the River Stour in Wiltshire\, includes a Palladian mansion\, the village of Stourton\, gardens\, farmland and woodland. The outstanding setting allowed its garden designers really to go to town (as it were). This is a magical outdoors\, where meandering paths surprise you with classical temples\, magnificent water features\, and a truly classical landscape that never fails to delight. The house itself is also fascinating\, with its Regency library\, Chippendale furniture and impressive art. There’s a shop\, plant centre\, and an excellent restaurant\, too.
