SUMMARY:Trip to Malvern Theatre to see Dr Adam Kay Undoctored with Ian Jarvis
DESCRIPTION:Coach £24\, Ticket £35.  Total £59.00. \n  \nPickups 17.45 h \nMalvern 1900h \n19.45 Dr. Adam Kay \n21.15 Leave for home. \nNot sure if you’ve read Adam Kay’s This is Going to Hurt? (Or seen the more poignant – to say the least – TV version.) Adam was\, for many years\, an NHS doctor. They say laughter is the best medicine: in theory\, then at least\, he has cured millions of people since leaving the profession with his tales of his time working in hospitals. The stories are\, frankly\, hilarious. (Though please NB shocking\, sad\, and sometimes gruesome\, too.)  This is the theatre version of his memoirs – an Edinburgh best-selling show – in which he appears in person to tell his story. \nTo quote from the Standard:\nAlongside darkly hilarious accounts including a guilty recollection of overindulging on Pinot Grigio with messy consequences and a cautionary tale about wrapping yourself in tin foil\, there is a stark\npolitical subtext. Not about poor pay\, but about doctors being poorly prepared for the strain on their mental health.  Kay recalls how his training woefully failed him\, explaining how his class was ‘taught\ncommunication skills like an amdram production of Holby City’. Students that wanted to succeed had to build up a tough carapace\, but there was always a risk the shield might crack. \nThis show will have you in stitches. Thankfully\, you won’t have to go back to have them removed.

SUMMARY:Does He Really do more of that? Short Stories by Philip Douch
DESCRIPTION:Amongst other delights Philip promises us the tale of a man who makes matchstick models of HMS Dreadnought and a hilarious take-down of chick lit romance – ably abetted by his co-readers Christina Heward-Mills and Jenny Nixon. Expect some more highlights from Stroud’s freegle recycling network (yes\, really).… and apparently there may also be a smattering of sex (but only in the stories\, you understand). \nPhilip has read twice at the Cheltenham Literature Festival (quite impressive); too many times to count at Stroud Short Stories and Story Fridays in Bath (quite fun); in the dark on the back of a land rover (quite dangerous); and at a pirates party (quite dressed up). He does know that it is ambiguous to say that he also once closed the Nailsworth Festival. \nTickets £12 can be bought online using the link below \nor from September at The Market Stores\, Minchinhampton (cash only) \nShort Stories Event: Does He Really Do More Of That..?! \n \n

SUMMARY:Sanctuary Sessions: Philippe Nash + sm*sher
DESCRIPTION:Philippe Nash \nPhilippe’s music is both enchanting and atmospheric. With an arresting voice and thoughtfully crafted guitar parts his songs shed light on a life in pursuit of artistry and poetics; a means of understanding and soulful communion. Philippe is currently in the process of writing his second album and will be sharing new material in Stroud with a one-off ensemble…sure to be a one of a kind evening not worth missing! \nsm^sher \nsm^sher is the moniker of Stroud based artist and producer Imogen Mason. With her debut album set for release later this year on unruly London label Scrawl\, sm^sher’s sonic world is impulsive\, visceral and tapestried; weaving meditations on memory\, grief\, addiction\, introversion and hope around industrial soundscape\, fractured beats\, drone-backed folk song and collage. \nDinner available from 6-8pm – pay-as-you-can as always. \nAs this is an intimate gig in our Sanctuary space\, tickets are limited. Please secure a ticket through the link on Long Table’s website https://www.thelongtablestroud.com/events
