SUMMARY:A trip to Chippenham town centre + Ilford Manor 2 course lunch\, Peto and walled gardens with Ian and Katie Jarvis
DESCRIPTION:Coach £28.50 plus entrance\, into talk\, extra private walled garden and lunch £49.50\, total £78 \n  \nIf you haven’t been to Iford\, then you’ve missed out (ifordmanor.co.uk). The manor is beautiful — medieval in origin — but we’re here to see the Grade 1 Italianate garden\, designed by Harold Ainsworth Peto\, who lived here from 1899 to 1933. Cascading down a hillside\, it is a maze of steps\, terraces\, sculpture and beautiful views. Honestly — absolutely delightful. We’ll be having a two-course lunch (included; menu attached); a short introductory talk for the garden; and then a free-time wander. We’ve also booked to see the walled garden\, where vegetables are grown and the greenhouses are sited. (Do check the website/call for accessibility issues; some parts of the garden are steep but avoidable.) On the way there\, we’ll be calling at Chippenham; just enough time for a coffee\, for those who want to find a café\, or have a bit of a shop 0850h 0950h 1125h 1215h 1615h Begin pickups (refer to your joining instructions for precise \n8.50 Begin pickups (refer to your joining instructions for precise timings) \n8\,50 Chippenham \n11.25 Transfer to Ilford \n12.15 Ilford Maor\, lunch\, Peto garden. \n4.15   Leave for home

(OK: maybe not extreme ironers — this is honestly a thing — but who knows.) Gardeners have their own village\, a plantsperson’s paradise. The RHS Flower Show\, inside the Floral Marquee\, features gorgeous displays (including rare and unusual plants)\, as well as a bumper selection of RHS medal-winning nurseries displaying their wares. The Great Malvern Cake Off Theatre hosts baking demos by well-known faces of The Great British Bake Off. There’s loads of shopping — food\, drink\, clothes\, crafts — a vintage village; plenty of places to drink and dine; and loads more besides. If you’re after an outing that will improve your gardening and ruin your credit-rating\, we think we’ve got this. https://malvernautumn.co.uk \n8.50 am Begin pickup (refer to your joining instructions for precise timings) \n10.45 am. SUMMARY:A trip to Coughton Court Tudor house gardens\, Alcester with Ian and Katie Jarvis
DESCRIPTION:Coach £30 plus entrance £14.50\, Total £44.50. \nBeautiful Coughton Court in Warwickshire has been in the Throckmorton family for 600 years — and what a family! They’ve been present at so many of the highs and lows of English history (particularly the Gunpowder Plot) that it’s a wonder they’ve survived. But survived they have — in fact\, Magnus and Imogen BirchThrockmorton\, along with children Isabella\, 4\, and Hector\, 18 months\, have recently resumed running the house\, taking back over from the National Trust. Its Tudor origins are very visible in the lovely central perpendicular towered gatehouse\, which George — a favourite of Henry VIII — would still recognise. Among the collections are a cope embroidered by Katherine of Aragon; a chemise thought to have been worn by Mary\, Queen of Scots\, at her execution; and the wonderful Throckmorton Coat\, made in 1811 as the result of a 1\,000 guinea wager that the garment couldn’t be made from scratch\, from sunrise to sunset on one day. (Spoiler: it could.) The gardens are an absolute joy: 25 acres of formal gardens\, rose gardens\, herbaceous borders\, pool gardens\, bog gardens\, fruit orchards\, spring borders\, bluebell woods and riverside walks. There’s a café and shop\, too. https://www.coughtoncourt.co.uk/ \n8.50am Begin pickups \n11am Coughton Court. \n15.45 Leave for home \n
