DESCRIPTION:The Hanks and the Hemmings have kindly stepped in and will be leading the walk in Slad on 30 June. Car-sharers to meet at Bell lane car park at 10.30. Those who prefer to drive straight there – please meet at the top of Steanbridge Lane at 11am. There is a small parking area at the top of Steanbridge Lane and also parking on the main road near the Woolpack Inn. The walk will take in part of the Laurie Lee Way\, including Swifts Hill\, which is an orchid-rich nature reserve with great views across the Vale. There are stiles and short climbs – but hopefully not much mud – which will make a nice change.\nSteve is looking into the possibility of lunch at the Woolpack (very nice!) – so let him know if you’d like to join the table if available. DESCRIPTION:Coach £28\, Non NT entrance £16.15 – Total £28 or £44.15 per person. \nKatie has visited this National Trust house with friends and says it’s lovely – so blame her. Ruby the spaniel is also keen as it’s a two-pawprint dog-friendly establishment\, and that’s the main thing. (Though we hope you might enjoy it\, too.)  It’s got all the usual NT attractions\, including shop\, second-hand bookshop\, and a tearoom. \nThe house itself is very impressive: an 18th century Palladian-style mansion that was saved by Lord and Lady Iliffe\, who bought it in 1952. They saw through the dreadful damage caused during requisitioning in the wars\, and set about restoring it sensitively. They also filled the house with antiques and Old Master paintings.\nLady Iliffe created the beautiful rose garden with advice from the well-known American gardening expert Lanning Roper.
