(Unlike our kitchen\, where plants seem to lose the will the minute they arrive.)  It sounds a bit of a cliché\, but it really isn’t: there’s something for everyone! \nThere’s the Temperate House\, the world’s largest Victorian glasshouse\, filled with rare and threatened plants. (Again\, they ought to see our kitchen.) This is home to 1\,200 species from Asia\, Australasia\, the Americas and Africa — and amongst those are specimens from some of the most remote locations on Earth: Saint Helena\, the Pitcairn Islands and Juan Fernández Islands. \nHere you’ll see some of the amazing work that Kew does\, rescuing plants that are not only rare but\, in some cases\, extinct in the wild.  The Princess of Wales Conservatory is dedicated to dry tropical environments\, featuring orchids\, succulents\, cacti\, and other plants from arid regions.  Surrounding the greenhouses is the arboretum\, with 11\,000 trees\, including ones as old as the gardens themselves; many can’t be found anywhere else in the country. Then there’s the rock garden\, mimicking the world’s mountainous regions\, with sandstone peaks and cascading waterfalls. \nAnd plenty more! \nThis summer on our trip\, you’ll see the fabulous Rose Garden blooming — 170 species and cultivars; as well as the Vegetable Garden\, selling some of its delicious produce. \nThere’s a great variety of places to eat\, with local food and produce foraged from the gardens; \n0850h Begin pickups \n1045h Comfort stop 10mins \n1130h Kew Gardens \n1530h Leave for home

DESCRIPTION:  \n  \nA concert with cake featuring English Chamber Choral Music plus a selection of music from a Bewitching Nature. \n  \nThe Twelvetree Voices are a Chamber Choir formed of members and friends of the BBC Symphony Chorus. This concert sees return to Box for a 10 year anniversary celebration in Box Village Hall. The programme includes Gerald Finzi’s Seven Songs of Frank Bridges and Imogen Holsts’s FolkSongs. The second half will feature music on a Magical theme\, inspired by 2 works from the archives of the late Terry Payne\, accompanist at St Barnabas Church\, Box. Join us for Enchantment\, Sorcery\, Wizardry and Witchcraft.Our chosen charity to receive profits from ticket sales is the Eve Appeal\, a charity of personal interest to choir members. \nSunday 24th August 3.30pm Box Village Hall –  tickets £10\, children free\, available from mark@greyroofs.me.uk or annerogers66@hotmail.co.uk \n  \n

DESCRIPTION:Minchinhampton Probus meets fortnightly on the second and fourth Thursday in the Porch Room\, Holy Trinity\, Minchinhampton.  Starts at 10am – with coffee and a catch up with other members.  The meeting comprises a brief business meeting for about 15 minutes then usually a guest speaker. Meeting finishes at noon. \nWe are a very friendly bunch of men from all sorts of backgrounds. The only qualification to join that that you are retired.  The subject of each meeting is as varied as we are! \nWe regularly have visits to local industry and other  social gatherings. \nPotential new members are very welcome to attend.  It would be helpful to know if you are coming!  No jacket required. \nPresident – John Flynn.
