SUMMARY:Minchinhampton Geology and Landscape Walk (part of Dursley Walking Festival)
DESCRIPTION:In the morning we shall walk northwards across the Common and then partly down the southern side of the Golden Valley to examine the underlying rock sequence and its effect on the landscape. Lunch will be taken at (or outside) the Old Lodge. \nIn the afternoon we will walk southwards across the common towards Box and the Nailsworth valley\, where we will again look at the rock sequence and its effect on the landscape. \nAlthough there are some steep slopes\, the walk will almost all be along well-defined paths\, tracks and roads. We will be visiting several old quarries\, some in private gardens by special permission of their owners. \nThis walk is free\, but the Festival relies on kind donations to ensure its future. SUMMARY:Bereavement Journey Course - 1st Session
DESCRIPTION:Presented jointly by Holy Trinity\, Minchinhampton\, and Minchinhampton Baptist Church (MBC). \nThursday 8th October – 19th November 2026 (seven evenings) \nWorking with grief and the loss of a loved one takes a long time. The Bereavement Journey® is a 7-session programme which assists bereaved people\, or those who have experienced similar\, to process their loss. Each session begins with light refreshments and the opportunity to get to know other participants. Two informative videos are then used interspersed with discussion in small groups facilitated by trained volunteers. The course is for anyone bereaved anytime. \nPrevious participants have commented:“Thanks for the care and thoughtfulness taken throughout each session.”“The Course was an exceptional experience and am very grateful to have been on it.”“Not only was it helpful and informative but nice to make new friends going through grief.” \nThe course will be held at The Porch Room\, Holy Trinity\, Minchinhampton. Registration costs £25\, which is a contribution to the cost of the course handbook and refreshments over the seven evenings. (NB: Grants are available where this small charge would be challenging.) \nApplication forms are available at Holy Trinity or the Baptist Church\, or may be downloaded from www.minchbc.org.uk or by email to courses@minchbc.org.uk.  Completed application forms can be scanned and emailed back to courses@minchbc.org.uk or suefairley1@outlook.com posted to Minchinhampton

SUMMARY:A trip to Coughton Court Tudor house gardens\, Alcester with Ian and Katie Jarvis
DESCRIPTION:Coach £30 plus entrance £14.50\, Total £44.50. \nBeautiful Coughton Court in Warwickshire has been in the Throckmorton family for 600 years — and what a family! They’ve been present at so many of the highs and lows of English history (particularly the Gunpowder Plot) that it’s a wonder they’ve survived. But survived they have — in fact\, Magnus and Imogen BirchThrockmorton\, along with children Isabella\, 4\, and Hector\, 18 months\, have recently resumed running the house\, taking back over from the National Trust. Its Tudor origins are very visible in the lovely central perpendicular towered gatehouse\, which George — a favourite of Henry VIII — would still recognise. Among the collections are a cope embroidered by Katherine of Aragon; a chemise thought to have been worn by Mary\, Queen of Scots\, at her execution; and the wonderful Throckmorton Coat\, made in 1811 as the result of a 1\,000 guinea wager that the garment couldn’t be made from scratch\, from sunrise to sunset on one day. (Spoiler: it could.) The gardens are an absolute joy: 25 acres of formal gardens\, rose gardens\, herbaceous borders\, pool gardens\, bog gardens\, fruit orchards\, spring borders\, bluebell woods and riverside walks. There’s a café and shop\, too. https://www.coughtoncourt.co.uk/ \n8.50am Begin pickups \n11am Coughton Court. \n15.45 Leave for home \n

SUMMARY:NT Live "The Misanthrope" at the Market House
DESCRIPTION:Award-winner Sandra Oh (Killing Eve) plays the title role in this razor-sharp reimagining of Molière’s classic dark comedy. \nTelling the truth isn’t always that simple. Alice\, a brilliant novelist\, despises the carefully constructed lies of modern society. But the more she challenges those around her\, the fiercer the backlash becomes. Soon\, she must confront the price of speaking her truth in a world that would rather silence her. \nFilmed live on stage at the National Theatre\, Indhu Rubasingham directs Martin Crimp’s (Cyrano de Bergerac) highly anticipated play. \n  \nTickets and booking:  Available online at https://minchinhamptonmarkethouse.co.uk or in person at the Market Stores.

SUMMARY:Poetry and Words
DESCRIPTION:Back in 2023\,  while organising our Annual Festival\, we decided to arrange a special event for our poets and wordsmiths.  It was so much of a success that we still meet regularly on the 2nd Monday of every month at lunchtime in the comfortable surroundings of the Minchinhampton Cotswold Club.  The sessions run from 12.30 –  2.00pm.  Anything goes.  Poems\, stories\, we’ve even had comedy\, but sometimes we just have a good old natter with a coffee. All welcome.
