SUMMARY:Charcoal Burning Course: From wood to artisanal Charcoal
DESCRIPTION:Two-Day Charcoal Burning Course: From Wood to Artisanal Charcoal \nImmerse yourself in the traditional craft of charcoal burning using a ring kiln in our two-day course set in the heart of our woodland. This hands-on experience will guide you through the entire process\, from start to finish. \nDay 1: \nWe start at 9:00am\, learning how to empty a kiln. Grading and packing the charcoal and ensuring it is ready for market is one of the most important parts of the process. If the product does not look good and ultimately perform well\, sales will be harder to achieve. \nOnce emptied\, we will see how the kiln is prepared for reloading: how to set the base of the kiln before loading with wood\, understanding the importance of airflow and how to seal the kiln correctly. As the evening draws in\, we’ll light the kiln at around 4:00pm. Discover how this exciting process works\, what to watch out for and how to stay safe! \nIn the evening\, enjoy food and drinks round the fire with new friends. If you’re camping overnight\, you may wish to rise at midnight for the chimney swap – a crucial part of the process. \nDay 2: \nAn early start – around 6am to avoid missing the shut down. A late start could mean the kiln has gone too far and the charcoal is now being burnt. You will learn the shutdown process and how to earth up the kiln. Sunday morning is all about coffee\, bacon butties (or whatever your nibble of choice is) watching the woods wake up and keeping a close eye on the smoke from the chimneys. Time for questions and discussions and some more wood prep for the next burn if desired. \nWe usually finish the course around mid- to late morning. \nThis course is a practical\, hands-on experience\, so please bring clothes you don’t mind getting dirty and sturdy boots. Some snacks and drinks are provided\, but bring food for your main meals: we have cooking facilities. You’re welcome to camp overnight for the burn\, or there are comfortable B&Bs nearby – own camping equipment required; great place for hammocks. \nYou will gain a deep understanding of the art and science of charcoal burning. Whether you’re a budding artist\, want to start making your own\, or simply curious about traditional woodland crafts\, this course offers a fascinating insight into the world of charcoal. \nPrice: £125 per person (course only)

SUMMARY:"A Complete Unknown" - Minchinhampton Movie Night at the Market House
DESCRIPTION:Doors open 7pm\, show starts at 7.30pm. \nThe next movie night at the Market House will feature the Bob Dylan Biopic ‘A COMPLETE UNKNOWN’. Set in the 1960s\, the film charts the rise of this now iconic folk singer. In 1961 Dylan leaves Minnesota and arrives in Greenwich Village\, New York to seek out his folk singing idols and activists Pete Seeger and Woody Guthrie. Gradually Dylan works his way into the New York folk music scene\, performing and recording his own protest songs. Like all biographical films\, the creators play a little fast and loose with actual history. For example the famous ‘Judas’ shout from the audience when Dylan appeared on stage with an electric guitar was not first heard in America\, but at a concert in Manchester (UK). The artistry of the lead actor Timothée Chalamet\, in both singing and playing guitar/harmonica\, is quite remarkable. Apparently he learned how to play the instruments just for this role. A Guardian review of the film included the quote ‘No one has ever worn sunglasses better.’ \nTickets from the Market Stores £7.   Licensed bar. \n(Both cash only please.) \n
