SUMMARY:Movie Night at the Market House - 'The Lost King'
DESCRIPTION:The main feature is the 2022 British film\, ‘The Lost King’ starring Sally Hawkins And Steve Coogan\, directed by Stephen Frears. It is based on the book ‘The Search for Richard lll.’ the true story of Phillipa Langley and her quest to find the last resting place of Richard lll\, the last Plantagenet King. She is convinced that the then current thinking of Richard as a hunchback murderer and all-round baddie was the result of Tudor and Shakespearian false news\, still being proposed by many university academics. It’s no secret that Phillipa succeded beyond her wildest dreams\,  in righting an historical wrong\, but her fight to be heard has been crafted into this highly entertaining film. \nThe second feature also has historic connections. In the autumn of last year\, our production team was asked by Hampton Probus to provide a short film called ‘Minchinhampton in the Second Elizabethan Age\,’ to  entertain members and guests at their pre Christmas meeting. To quote the eminent Vulcan Philosopher\, Mr Spock\, ‘It’s History\, Jim\, but not as we know it.’  Watching this documentary\, you may see and hear things about Minchinhampton that you consider unbelievable. And you would be right. \n‘The Lost King’ and ‘Minchinhampton in the Second Elizabethan Age’ at the Market House Minchinhampton Friday 27th January 2023. Doors open 7.00pm\, show start 7.30pm \nTickets (cash only) £6 from the Market Stores – available now.  Licensed bar (franchise now under new management)

SUMMARY:Minchinhampton Walking & Wildlife Group (Kingscote)
DESCRIPTION:The walk on 29 January takes in the woods around Kingscote. We are hoping that the snowdrops and aconites will be in bloom (they were just coming out today)\, but are confident that in any event\, the waterfalls\, trees and lovely valleys will be there.  The walk is approx. 2 miles and involves some moderate hill climbing and wet ground (unless frozen).  Pheasants are reared in the woods and in some fields dogs are supposed to be on a lead\, although there was no livestock in evidence today. There are also 3 stiles over which we needed to lift the dogs – so don’t bring your Great Dane unless it can jump over a stile.\n\nPlease meet at 10.30 at the Bell Lane car park to car share\, or at 10.50 at Kingscote church.\nWe are an informal group of friends who enjoy walking\, wildlife\, good company and the occasional trip the pub. You are very welcome to join us – but entirely at your own risk!! \nAll walks use public footpaths which may be steep\, rough and slippery. Prepare accordingly. \nIf the weather is very poor\, we will cancel by email by 9.00am on the relevant morning. \nPlease contact karencolebourn@gmail.com to be added to the circulation list.
