SUMMARY:Minchinhampton Walking and Wildlife Group - a walk to Avening
DESCRIPTION:A walk to Avening – led by Clare Goodrick. \nThe circular walk begins and ends by Holy Cross Church in Avening where there is plenty of road parking.  At the end of the walk\, we will go a short distance by car to lunch at The Weighbridge Inn\, Nailsworth GL6 9AN.  Unfortunately the lunch has to be served upstairs because of numbers which may make it difficult for some non-walkers to join us. The Pub would like confirmation of numbers and menu choices in advance.\n\nThis is a lovely walk of just under 4 miles through magnificent countryside.  We begin by rising through the Churchyard and then dipping down a lane to a pretty stream which we cross to make a gentle ascent through sheep fields ultimately reaching a wood with plentiful wild flowers: Wild Garlic\, Wood Anemones\, Bluebells\, Cowslips   We then walk a short stretch of lane to begin another gentle descent through sheep fields enjoying wonderful views across the surrounding hills and accompanied by Skylarks. Ultimately we rejoin the stream we crossed on the path out and return via the Churchyard to the cars.\nThere are some stiles. If sunny\, it will be important to take precautions against the sun in the open stretches.  Even after the dry weather we have had there are one or two patches of mud. If sheep are grazing\, dogs will need to be kept on leads through the fields. Please make sure you have plenty of water for yourself and\, if you have one\, your dog.\nPlease confirm whether you would like to join us for lunch and\, if so\, your menu choices to Clare by email by Friday 25th April. Clare’s email: ikonprint@proton.me\n  \n  \n  \nWe are an informal group of friends who enjoy walking\, wildlife\, good company and the occasional trip the pub. You are very welcome to join us – but entirely at your own risk!! \nAll walks use public footpaths which may be steep\, rough and slippery. DESCRIPTION:Minchinhampton Probus meets fortnightly on the second and fourth Thursday in the Porch Room\, Holy Trinity\, Minchinhampton.  Starts at 10am – with coffee and a catch up with other members.  The meeting comprises a brief business meeting for about 15 minutes then usually a guest speaker. Meeting finishes at noon. \nWe are a very friendly bunch of men from all sorts of backgrounds. The only qualification to join that that you are retired.  The subject of each meeting is as varied as we are! \nWe regularly have visits to local industry and other  social gatherings. \nPotential new members are very welcome to attend.  It would be helpful to know if you are coming!  No jacket required. \nPresident – John Flynn.
