SUMMARY:Minch Church Songfest
DESCRIPTION:CHORISTERS AND CHORAL SCHOLARS at Holy Trinity Minchinhampton are preparing to sing their hearts out for SongFest 21 alongside Gloucester Cathedral lay clerks\, members of the Corelli Orchestra\, and soloists including internationally renowned tenor\, James Gilchrist. \n  \nUnder the baton of the church’s director of music\, Warwick Cole\, they will sing works from Tallis\, Mozart and Byrd in a series of services running from Friday 27th August to Sunday 29th August.  “Not only do we want to celebrate our choral tradition\,” says Cole\, “ but we want our local youngsters to experience singing alongside skilled performers who will inspire them. Usually you’d have to be part of a Cathedral choir to benefit from this type of input – but we want to do it at parish level. The church has recently been refurbished and is a beautiful backdrop for our singing.” \n  \nHoly Trinity Minchinhampton has instituted a programme of supporting choristers and choral scholars. Choristers receive a small stipend for their services while choral scholars benefit from a £600 pa grant and individual singing lessons. \n\n\nFull programme\nFriday\, 27th August\nCompline 8pm:\nTallis: Te Lucis\, Nunc Dimittis a 5\, Sancte Deus\n\n\nSaturday\, 28th August\nRestoration-themed Matins 11am:\nHall/Hine: Te Deum\, Jubilate. Blow: O Lord Thou Hast Searched\nMe Out.\n\n\nSunday\, 29th August\nParish Eucharist 10am:\nMozart: Spaztenmesse (K220) with instrumental ensemble (tuned to A415)\, Laudate Dominum from Vespers.\n\n\nSunday\, 29th August\nEvensong 5.30pm:\nByrd: Second Service\, responses and anthem.\n\n\nAs with all the services they are free (of course) and anyone is welcome to come and listen\n

SUMMARY:Horsfall House Charity Walk
DESCRIPTION:Our annual Charity Walk follows a well signposted/marshalled route via Gatcombe Wood and Avening Court (both of which are not normally open to the public and are with the kind permission of the owners); through Box then back on to the Common and to Minchinhampton Library from where it begins. \nThe complete walk is around 10 miles but a shorter walk of 3-4 miles will get you to Avening from where you can arrange your own pick-up. It’s well worth doing just this section if you love mature woodlands and sensitively restored water gardens\, they are fabulous. \n  \nAll walkers need to check-in on the day at Minchinhampton Library and to keep admin costs down and shorten the check-in progress\, we would much prefer walkers to register and donate online please at www.horsfallhouse.co.uk/fundraising .  If this is not something that you are used to and you need help with the process\, Dee will be glad to guide you if you call 07384116275 and we won’t refuse donations/registrations on the day of course! \nEntry again this year is by Voluntary Donation (so that we can claim 25% Gift Aid wherever possible) so please give generously if you can. \n  \nFor all the details\, directions\, map and the Terms and Conditions of entry go to www.horsfallhouse.co.uk/fundraising and remember that by registering you are agreeing to these Terms and Conditions and to respect the personal space of your fellow walkers.  We can then all enjoy a pleasant and safe walk. \n

SUMMARY:Wild Food Foraging Walk & lunch
DESCRIPTION:During the wild food foraging\, which last around three hours\, we will be identifying\, picking\, and eating a number of delicious plants. There will be discussion around seasonal eating\, the nutritional values and medicinal use of plants. We will also look at the conservation of species and their habitats\, what to take and what to leave. And of course\, there’s the identification and storage of wild food\, delicious recipes\, and lots\, lots more. \nThe group meets in the hotel lounge for an introduction over coffee or tea followed by a foraging walk and a two-course lunch back at the hotel prepared by head chef Shaun. \nBring a flask of hot water with you to make your own herbal tea as we forage leaves\, flowers etc when we’re outside. \nMore details and details on how to book:  https://www.burleighcourtcotswolds.co.uk/foraging-courses-at-burleigh-court/

SUMMARY:Coach trip with Ian to Malvern Autumn Show.
DESCRIPTION:Friday 24th September – Malvern Autumn Show \nEntrance £18 & Coach £18 – Total £36 per person \n  \nWe thought this show at the Three Counties Showground sounded just the ticket. If you’re a gardener\, there’s a flower show with plant nurseries (and a place to search out all the plants and seeds on your list). For shoppers\, there’s a countryside pavilion with everything from artwork and jewellery to an independent crafts area\, featuring makers from Hereford\, Worcestershire and Gloucestershire. \nFor the eaters (who isn’t!)\, the outdoor food and drink village offers a panoply of local producers. \nPlus\, there will be displays of historic craftsmanship; a vintage village – including vintage shopping; and displays of vintage garden machinery\, classic caravans and vintage tractors. There’s even a wartime pub (all the trappings of the 1940s)\, and a vintage tearoom. \nYou can find out more details at malvernautumn.co.uk \n0915 – 0925h          Begin pickups \n1045h           Destination \n1530h                      Leave for home (ETA ~1630h)

SUMMARY:Walking and Wildlife Group - Box Wood and beyond.
DESCRIPTION:The walk will start at Box Village Hall car park at 10:30am. We recommend stout walking shoes as Box Wood can get a bit damp\, especially after rain. The walk will include some meandering inclines down to Longfords\, Iron Mills and ultimately The Weighbridge\, then back up again via Holcombe Mill\, although you could arrange to leave cars at The Weighbridge to take you back up the hill. So lots of wildlife but we will also be joined by Beris Hanks and Bob Common. Bob is a resident of Iron Mills and will be offering quite a bit of local history too. \nDespite Jacquie’s considerable efforts\, we have been unable to find any venue within range that is able to accommodate the MWWG for lunch this Sunday. I think booking anything weeks in advance has become the new\, post-Covid norm. \n  \nWe have instead booked Box Village Hall\, where there is a marquee in the lovely gardens under which we can arrange tables and chairs for a bring-your-own picnic. Bring suitable clothing as we cannot book warm weather either. \n  \n  \n  \nSphemmings@gmail.com \nWe are an informal group of friends who enjoy walking\, wildlife\, good company and the occasional trip the pub. You are very welcome to join us – but entirely at your own risk!! \nAll walks use public footpaths which may be steep\, rough and slippery. Prepare accordingly. \nWe generally start at 10.30\, unless otherwise specified in the programme. \nIf the weather is very poor\, we will cancel by email by 9.00am on the relevant morning. \nPlease contact karencolebourn@gmail.com to be added to the circulation list. We also have a Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/groups/Minchwildwalks \nMeet at Box Village Hall car park). Box Wood and beyond. Led by Hanks and Hemmings
