SUMMARY:Coach trip to Waddeson Manor House with the Jarvis’
DESCRIPTION:By popular demand! Whenever we do a trip to Waddesdon\, there’s always a big uptake – and no surprise there. This house might be near Aylesbury as far as the map is concerned\, but its heart lies in France: for it’s the epitome of a French chateau. It was built between 1874 and 1889 for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild… Not as his main residence\, of course\, but for weekend entertaining (the surrounding views of Oxfordshire and the Chilterns are fabulous)\, and the setting for his wonderful art collection. The family were the greatest collectors of the 19th century\, with ears finely tuned to craftsmanship\, skill and historical importance. Hence\, you’ll see everything from Sèvres porcelain\, to masterpieces by Gainsborough and Reynolds. Victorian style gardens host ornate fountains and statuary\, as well as rare and exotic birds in the Rococo-style aviary. There are restaurants and other food outlets selling fresh\, homemade fare\, and a well- stocked shop; waddesdon.org.uk\n0845h-0900h Nailsworth/Box/Minch pickups\n1100h Arrive Waddesdon – Tea/Coffee & home made biscuits in Manor Restaurant \n3.30pm. Leave for home \n  \nNT & Rothschild’s Waddeson Manor House Travel £23.00 for National Trust members (For nonNT members\, an extra £19\, so £42.00 inc ) \n  \nBook by 29th June!

DESCRIPTION:If you haven’t been to Wells you will love it-\n\nIt’s England’s smallest city\, nestling in front of the rolling Mendips\nthere’s a fab street market\, selling local produce\, crafts and gifts. And Wells is home to one of the finest collections of medieval buildings you’ll find this side of the Channel. Of course\, there’s Wells Cathedral\, right in the heart of the city.\n\nIt’s the earliest English cathedral to be built in the Gothic style\, and attracts visitors from all over the world. Amongst its unique features are the beautiful ‘scissor arches’ supporting the central tower; and the Wells clock\, probably the second oldest clock mechanism in Great Britain. The cathedral also houses a magnificent collection of stained glass.\n\nRound the corner is Vicars’ Close\, the only complete medieval street left in England.\n\nDon’t miss out on the Bishop’s Palace. You can pop into the café\, browse the shop (and even use the loos)\nfor free; but\, if you buy a ticket (£15 – do book online IN ADVANCE)\, you’ll get access to the medieval palace itself\, the undercroft\, the ruined Great Hall\, 14 acres of lovely gardens\, and the Bishop’s Chancel.\nIncluded is a daily guided tour\n(bishopspalace.org.uk)\n\nWells High Street is a wonderful place for unusual\, independent shops and cafes!\n\nBut don’t just look in the windows; notice the narrow streets\, the mix of building styles from over the ages\, and the water channels that run down either side. The latter derive from a gift of water\, given to the town by Bishop Beckyngton in 1451.\n\nCoach trip £20 – book as soon as you can.  Leaving Minch 9.15 – 9.30 am – and departing Wells at 4pm\n\nIan Jarvis (Abbeyhall Ltd) \nTel: +44 (0)1453 83 31 31 \nMobile: +44 (0)7403 899 599 \n

SUMMARY:Minch Church Songfest
DESCRIPTION:CHORISTERS AND CHORAL SCHOLARS at Holy Trinity Minchinhampton are preparing to sing their hearts out for SongFest 21 alongside Gloucester Cathedral lay clerks\, members of the Corelli Orchestra\, and soloists including internationally renowned tenor\, James Gilchrist. \n  \nUnder the baton of the church’s director of music\, Warwick Cole\, they will sing works from Tallis\, Mozart and Byrd in a series of services running from Friday 27th August to Sunday 29th August.  “Not only do we want to celebrate our choral tradition\,” says Cole\, “ but we want our local youngsters to experience singing alongside skilled performers who will inspire them. Usually you’d have to be part of a Cathedral choir to benefit from this type of input – but we want to do it at parish level. The church has recently been refurbished and is a beautiful backdrop for our singing.” \n  \nHoly Trinity Minchinhampton has instituted a programme of supporting choristers and choral scholars. Choristers receive a small stipend for their services while choral scholars benefit from a £600 pa grant and individual singing lessons. \n\n\nFull programme\nFriday\, 27th August\nCompline 8pm:\nTallis: Te Lucis\, Nunc Dimittis a 5\, Sancte Deus\n\n\nSaturday\, 28th August\nRestoration-themed Matins 11am:\nHall/Hine: Te Deum\, Jubilate. Blow: O Lord Thou Hast Searched\nMe Out.\n\n\nSunday\, 29th August\nParish Eucharist 10am:\nMozart: Spaztenmesse (K220) with instrumental ensemble (tuned to A415)\, Laudate Dominum from Vespers.\n\n\nSunday\, 29th August\nEvensong 5.30pm:\nByrd: Second Service\, responses and anthem.\n\n\nAs with all the services they are free (of course) and anyone is welcome to come and listen\n
