DESCRIPTION:This is a fundraiser event in support of Joseph. \nJoseph’s journey through terminal cancer has been eased by the rallying of family and friends; but now\, more than ever\, they need support to fund vital ground-breaking immunotherapy cancer treatment for him\, his family and their future together. His partner Thea (our friend and colleague at Brimscombe Mill) and baby Tao rely on him as a loving husband and father and hope many of us can gather together to help them. \nThea met Corinne 25 years ago when they were both at university in Leeds. Their partners were best friends in a band together and they formed an instantaneous deep connection. They have remained close in each others lives and families ever since. Corinne has offered her friend this sensational one-off acoustic performance to fundraise and support with Joseph’s much needed treatment. \nAs always\, we like to keep our events pay-as-you can so that cost of access is not a barrier to attending. DESCRIPTION:Once Ian had explained to Katie that this was not a bonsai tree experience (poor joke)\, we thought this was a great trip to do. The Oxford plant where all parts are assembled and put together to make road ready Minis is the largest and oldest of the three Mini plants in the UK. Founded in 1913\, it has been in constant production ever since; this is where the original Mini was born in 1959. Today\, a major focus is on sustainability\, targeting energy usage\, water consumption\, CO2 emissions and waste of all kinds. More than 800 cars are built each day here. The tour is fascinating you’ll see the body shop where pressed steel panels are welded/bonded together with the help of 1\,200 robots (not by men called Robert\, for anybody who remembers Not The Nine O’Clock News); ending up in the final assembly hall to see Minis ready to leave in all their glory. The tour takes around 1hr 40 minutes\, and there’s a free visit to the museum to finish at your own pace.\nAround 90 employees with 1\,200 robots make the cars. There are three shifts a day running for 22h a day\, 5 days a week. If you stand at the end of the line\, a new mini drives off every 68 seconds! DESCRIPTION:Karen Colebourn will be leading a walk to see the snowdrops at Cherrington pond on 28 Jan. We’ll meet at Bell Lane car park at 10.30 and head east. If the weather warms up and is wet again\, this walk may be muddy in part. Phil will meet us at Cherington pond\, so those who don’t want to walk any further can get a lift back. Let me know if you’d like to join us for lunch at the Crown. \n  \nThe Walking and Wildlife Group are an informal group of friends who enjoy\, walking\, wildlife\, good company and the occasional trip to the pub.  You are very welcome to join us – but entirely at your own risk! \nWe generally walk on the last Sunday of each month\, starting at 10.30 and finishing by lunchtime\, unless otherwise specified in the programme. \nIf the weather is very poor\, we will cancel by email by 9am on the relevant morning. \n  \nAll walks use public footpaths which may be steep\, rough and slippery.  Prepare accordingly. \nPlease contact karencolebourn@gmail.com to be added to the circulation list.
