SUMMARY:Coach trip to Burford with Ian and Katie Jarvis
DESCRIPTION:Burford & Lunch at The Fox Inn\, Barrington \nCoach £22 Lunch (2 or 3 course) £30/38 (Total £52/60) per person \nWe’ve visited the Fox Inn in the village of Barrington several times — for coffee and cake\,and for lunch. [*Unbidden image of weighing scales*]… [But who cares!] It’s a cracker\, and we always find it hospitable\, delicious\, and reasonably priced.  Situated on the banks of the Windrush\, there are lovely strolls to be had in this pretty North Cotswold village.  Even more temptingly\, the food is absolutely excellent (and included; drinks extra).  We’ll send a menu in due course (with choices); we can sort out food allergies. \nYou’ll definitely all know Burford\, where we’ll also have time to have a shop and wander in the picturesque\, famous High Street rising up from the medieval bridge and historic church.  Individual shops\, gallery\, museum and England’s oldest pharmacy (open since 1734\, though not on a Sunday) are on the menu. (We would mention the cafes and restaurants\, but only the more robust of you will be interested\, we feel.) \n0915h  Begin pickups \n1030h  Burford \n1240h   Transfer to Fox Inn \n1300h   Lunch \n1515h     Leave for Home \n  \nIan (& Katie) Jarvis \nTel: +44 (0)1453 83 31 31 \nMobile: +44 (0)7403 899 599 \nMobile: +44 (0)7802 357 478

The National Trust has owned and maintained Minchinhampton Common since 1913 and Rodborough Common since 1937 and works to protect the landscape\, ecology and archaeology of the area.\n\nThe Minchinhampton & Rodborough Commons Advisory Committee brings together volunteers\, councillors and other stakeholders who represent communities who enjoy the commons\, working together with the National Trust to protect these important places for the future.\n\nAttendees at the committee’s spring event will feature special talks from Prof Chris Short\, Chair of the Foundation for Common Land and Associate Professor in Environmental Governance at the University of Gloucestershire and Dr Sharon Gardham\, discussing the history of the commons and her PhD thesis Becoming Good Neighbours: How the model of English common land can inspire equitable and sustainable multi-species relationships.\n\nThe evening will also include opportunities to learn more about how to support the work on the commons\, including finding out more about becoming a “Dog Ambassador” volunteer with the National Trust.\n\nThe event is free with limited spaces\, available for pre-booking on the National Trust website here.\n\nRefreshments will be provided.\n\nCeridwen Massey\, Chair of the Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons Advisory Committee said:\n\n“Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons are a precious resource\, one of just a handful of areas of common land which have remained unenclosed since the last Ice Age. They are designated as a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI)\, a Special Area of Conservation and a Scheduled Ancient Monument.\n \n“Our committee brings together volunteers and representatives of a range of local organisations\, working together with the National Trust to protect these important natural spaces. We are delighted to be joined by speaker Prof Chris Short\, Chair of the Foundation for Common Land for our spring event\, bringing his valuable insight about environmental governance and common land in general.\n \n“We hope that anyone with an interest in the commons will join us at Rodborough Community Hall for what promises to be a fascinating evening.”\n \nNational Trust Visitor Experience Manager Max Biddlestone said:\n\n“We are delighted to be supporting the Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons Advisory Committee’s spring event. The committee help to support our management of these important green spaces and keeping us aware of issues affecting the commons.\n \n“The spring event promises to be an interesting exploration of the commons and common land in general\, and a good opportunity for our team to meet people who love the commons and share opportunities to get involved in our work across Minchinhampton and Rodborough Commons.”

SUMMARY:Jack and the Magic Apple (Box Players)
DESCRIPTION:It’s panto time again and Box Players is excited to announce that its 2026 production will be “Jack and the magic Apple”\, written and directed by Jessamy Baxter and based on “The Magic Apple” by Brian Woosey. It’s a tale of local life when the wool trade was being industrialised and driving the cottage weavers of Box into poverty. \nBut it’s not all doom and gloom: a mysterious community of “off-gridders” brings magical powers to Jack Nittypickles\, the hero of our story\, who falls head-over-heels for the beautiful and intelligent mill owner’s daughter. Meanwhile\, her rather idiotic father\, one Clothbert Woolsack-Bumblethorpe\, is fooled into hiring Tom Long and his highwaymen (how did they get in here?) as his mill management team. This turns out to be a disastrous mistake! Join us as we “weave a yarn” of magic\, mystery and local history. Will Tom Long get his way\, or will Jack save the day? \nPerformances at Box Village Hall are at 7.30pm on Thursday 19th\, Friday 20th and Saturday 21st March\, with a matinee at 2.30pm on Saturday 21st March. Tickets\, at £10 for adults and £5 for children\, are available from Jane Storey on 07855 188155 or by email at storeyjane273@hotmail.com
