SUMMARY:MARKING DAY - COWS RETURN
DESCRIPTION:Marking Day is the day when the cows are brought from the overwintering fields and sheds and released back onto the Minchinhampton Common to roam and graze. \nIt is believed that the name comes from when livestock owners would gather with their animals beside The Old Lodge on Minchinhampton Common where each cow would be tagged\, or marked\, for identification before being released.

SUMMARY:POSTPONED MinchLife Walking and Wildlife Group
DESCRIPTION:POSTPONED DUE TO BAD WEATHER – TO TAKE PLACE IN MAY INSTEAD.\n\nMichael and Mary will be leading our next walk on 28 April. Please meet on Rodborough Common at the “double ” car park shortly after the turn for The Hithe (travelling from Minch).  We will walk across the Common to the fort (early orchids)\, then descend across fields to the River Frome (possibility of dippers and kingfisher).  Follow the canal to the pedestrian railway crossing\, then climb back up to Rodborough Common through fields (stiles) and woodland.\n\nMichael has said that they will refine the route\, depending on the condition of the paths\, but please be prepared for MUD – and a climb.\nThe Walking and Wildlife Group are an informal group of friends who enjoy\, walking\, wildlife\, good company and the occasional trip to the pub.  You are very welcome to join us – but entirely at your own risk! \nWe generally walk on the last Sunday of each month\, starting at 10.30 and finishing by lunchtime\, unless otherwise specified in the programme. \nIf the weather is very poor\, we will cancel by email by 9am on the relevant morning. \nAll walks use public footpaths which may be steep\, rough and slippery.  Prepare accordingly. \nPlease contact karencolebourn@gmail.com to be added to the circulation list.
