SUMMARY:Wells Cathedral\, Bishops Palace and Street Market coach trip
DESCRIPTION:If you haven’t been to Wells you will love it-\n\nIt’s England’s smallest city\, nestling in front of the rolling Mendips\nthere’s a fab street market\, selling local produce\, crafts and gifts. And Wells is home to one of the finest collections of medieval buildings you’ll find this side of the Channel. Of course\, there’s Wells Cathedral\, right in the heart of the city.\n\nIt’s the earliest English cathedral to be built in the Gothic style\, and attracts visitors from all over the world. Amongst its unique features are the beautiful ‘scissor arches’ supporting the central tower; and the Wells clock\, probably the second oldest clock mechanism in Great Britain. The cathedral also houses a magnificent collection of stained glass.\n\nRound the corner is Vicars’ Close\, the only complete medieval street left in England.\n\nDon’t miss out on the Bishop’s Palace. You can pop into the café\, browse the shop (and even use the loos)\nfor free; but\, if you buy a ticket (£15 – do book online IN ADVANCE)\, you’ll get access to the medieval palace itself\, the undercroft\, the ruined Great Hall\, 14 acres of lovely gardens\, and the Bishop’s Chancel.\nIncluded is a daily guided tour\n(bishopspalace.org.uk)\n\nWells High Street is a wonderful place for unusual\, independent shops and cafes!\n\nBut don’t just look in the windows; notice the narrow streets\, the mix of building styles from over the ages\, and the water channels that run down either side. The latter derive from a gift of water\, given to the town by Bishop Beckyngton in 1451.\n\nCoach trip £20 – book as soon as you can.  Leaving Minch 9.15 – 9.30 am – and departing Wells at 4pm\n\nIan Jarvis (Abbeyhall Ltd) \nTel: +44 (0)1453 83 31 31 \nMobile: +44 (0)7403 899 599 \n
