DESCRIPTION:By popular demand! Whenever we do a trip to Waddesdon\, there’s always a big uptake – and no surprise there. This house might be near Aylesbury as far as the map is concerned\, but its heart lies in France: for it’s the epitome of a French chateau. It was built between 1874 and 1889 for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild… Not as his main residence\, of course\, but for weekend entertaining (the surrounding views of Oxfordshire and the Chilterns are fabulous)\, and the setting for his wonderful art collection. The family were the greatest collectors of the 19th century\, with ears finely tuned to craftsmanship\, skill and historical importance. Hence\, you’ll see everything from Sèvres porcelain\, to masterpieces by Gainsborough and Reynolds. Victorian style gardens host ornate fountains and statuary\, as well as rare and exotic birds in the Rococo-style aviary.
